So the rumours were true after all! Shocked

How significant will this refit be? Digital Spy suggests it will be built on a 'larger scale' with a potential new 'dining area'. I'm not convinced fans will take too kindly to such a dramatic redesign. I'm quite surprised this is happening so soon too - I would have thought they would have tried to tie it in with the set moving, unless they're further ahead than I think they are.

It seems this particular incident could well be a lot bigger than the previous fire in 1986.

Quote:

"When the fire is finally put out, the Rovers will stand in ruins," an insider claimed.
"Next thing, the pub bursts into flames."

That seems odd ... the fire is put out, then it bursts into flames again? Sounds like they might going for more dramatic
structural damage, than just a very badly scorched interior that's repaired and restored within a few weeks. I wonder if
the production team could do to the Rovers Return exterior, what they did with the Corner Shop exterior for the tram
crash episode, by demolishing that end of the terrace it to some extent ... maybe even completely.

I suspect the Barlow household could get a fair bit of damage too ... possibly more than just smoke damage.

I think DS just got their quotes the wrong way around there, lol

Though, it seems the fire will definately be bigger than the first Rovers fire, I noticed this in the filming pictures

so it looks like the upstairs will also be completely burnt out, unlike the first one, which was mainly in the bar

Well, it looks like it could possibly be another case of Deidre saying ... "Ken, DO something!!!"

Either that, or Stella's asked Jason to install a roof window!

I hope the change isn't too drastic, like when the factory suddenly developed back kitchen and an upstairs overnight. I think part of the Rovers' charm is it's modest size, after all it is just a back street boozer Razz

At the very least the exterior should remain predominantly green with the gold coloured signage. There would be uproar if the look of the pub changed too much ...and rightly so! I'm all for a good dramatic storyline but not at the expense of an institution such as the Rovers! Wink

Relive all the drama of the 1986 fire at the Rovers here . . .

Classic Corrie - Fire at The Rovers Return (1986) - Part 1 (Complete with Granada frontcap!)

Classic Corrie - Fire at The Rovers Return (1986) - Part 2 (The immediate aftermath.)

Well the last time there was a fire in the Rovers there was a very big redesign and it shrunk quite considerably: http://www.corrie.net/profiles/places/rovers/rovers2.htm.

In real life it would take a few months to rebuild so getting rid of the old one a while before they move to the new set would make sense

As I say the Rovers did suddenly lose The Select at one point and the main bar shrunk - not that it's layout has ever made sense, particularly the position of the loos
