watching some of the classic episodes on you tube it's interesting to see how eaiser it is to do actual stunts than it used to be, as in the old episodes you didn't 'see' the train coming off the viaduct or number 7 collapsing you heard it from the persective of those in the rovers then the cut to the immediate mess and aftermath, same when the truck went into the rovers, you heard the noises and saw the reaction of Anne and Deirdre

He also played Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances.
Yeah, I would've thought he was more known for Onslow (or even Twiggy) than Corrie. How long was he in Corrie for?
For 13 years, from 1974 to 1987, according to Wikipedia.
RIP Geoffrey Hughes.
He was actually in Corrie for 9 years - Dec 74-Dec 83. Returned for an episode or two as part of Hilda's departure in late 87.
I was very sad to hear of his death.

The former Coronation Street and Royle Family star Geoffrey Hughes lost his battle against cancer last night.

Corrie producer Phil Collinson is standing down at Corrie, to be replaced by current Emmerdale producer Stuart Blackburn from January.

I'm quite glad of this. Collinson has had some good storylines during his time and certainly improved the show, but recently the programme has been a bit of a snooze. Collinson is also a big fan of long, on-going stories which, after a while, can become a bit tiresome. The whole Peter-Leanne-Carla was driving me crazy.

The thing I do hate is the axing of characters that happens from producer to producer. But lets have a bit of fun... So if you were producer who would you axe, who would you bring in and what changes would you make?

Interesting news. I really admired Phil and the storylines he's brought in whilst being producer, I expected him to stay a little while longer to be honest however he has had a good 3/4 years I think.
I'm really not sure on the replacement being Stuart Blackburn, I've not enjoyed Emmerdale half as much under his leadership but who knows, Corrie could be different.
It'll be interesting to see how long Michelle Collins sticks around for now, its pretty well known that Phil Collinson and her are friends and many suggested she won the part of Stella Price because of that. That said I think Stella is a lot more well liked by the general public now, and the introduction of Gloria and Sue Johnston has been great.

Carl and Rob would go immediately. Rather pointless characters IMO.

If I took over I'd axe;
-Leanne Battersby: Character has become totally ruined.
-Aiden, Marcus' Boyfriend: Character is pointless.
I'd explore bringing in;
- A new 'normal' family
-Bring back Dev's uncle Umed to run the kebab shop.
-And maybe the family (Mam, Sister, Brother etc.) of Brian the head teacher
-I'd also like to see more characters return to the show. Like the Mortons for example many people move abroad but often come back- I'd actually warmed to the characters of Mel & Jerry by the time they left and I think Teresa was great!
I'd Change;
-Something happen to the empty butchers- It's been nearly two years now.
-Like to explore more of the medical centre and primary school- maybe relocate the latter to Victoria Street?

Been watching some full episodes on youtube from the 70s, and noticed it was episodes where nothing is really happening were the best ones, random sub plots with dialogue peppered with comedy. Anyway, if I was producer I would try and get Julie Goodyear back in a role along the thread of the dear late Blanche Hunt et al, Bet sometimes had a vicious tongue and had great comedy timing, so an elderly Bet Lynch would be brilliant.
