An incredibly sad day for Coronation Street, rest in peace Betty. x

Very sad news. She always said she'd never retire and that has been the case. Hopefully corrie will be able to give a good send off to Betty Turpin when the time is right. RIP.

Indeed, a very sad day. RIP. I wonder how the Rovers will cope with no Hot Pots on the menu!

I can only echo everyone else... incredibly sad news indeed. I had hoped she would become well enough to make a few more appearances, but she had a fantastic long run in the show and managed to clock up 40 years of magic. I'm sure Corrie will give her a dignified send-off, when the time is right. RIP Betty.

It'll be interesting to see how they do that considering she has no family on screen at all.

I can only repeat what has already been said, RIP Betty.
In less than two years Corrie has lost 2 icons of the Street.

There are some nice links on YouTube. I can't post them here because of iPad nonsense. However, The Betty Driver Story, Part 4 of 4, is a fitting tribute in itself, although was recorded some time ago.

"right, who's for 'ot pot?"

Bless.

Perhaps Bill Kenwright will return as her son Gordon for an onscreen funeral?
