Peter Barlow spent most of his childhood in Scotland and sounds like he's comes from Sheffield Confused

Not too far off... Chris Gascoyne is from Huthwaite (near Mansfield), and retains his Notts accent in Coro: As you say that's rather bizarre, considering Peter grew up somewhere in Scotland :lol Then again David Platt has spent all his life on Coronation Street, yet somehow has developed a West Yorkshire accent. Wink

However when Sherrie Hewson (also from Notts) joined the Street, she was advised to retain her native accent. Producers told her an attempt at a Manc accent would stick out like a sore thumb, given there were genuine Mancs in the cast.

don't see why the can't have Michelle Collins' London accent and John Mich's Scotish accent, not everybody in Manchester has northern accent.

The point is they're acting, playing someone else.

You post some silly things on here at times.

wasn't aware I was breaking the terms of services by not posting sensible questions

I was just questioning why they choose to change some actors' accents to northern whilst other actors keep their non northern accents

Because some of the characters are some from the north others are not.

It's of Manchester City Centre for anyone who doesn't know, it was probably to tie in with Becky in the hotel, even though said hotel was on the other side of the city centre!

Are we sure it's new? Corrie seem to use the same break bumpers all the time, and that one looks similar to the first shot on the opening titles (which presumably had a sting made at the same time).

Saying that, I haven't seen it before so it could well be new. Normally when they're outside Weatherfield they use the one with the bus stop.

I like it, but is there an object actually in focus like the other ones?

Yeah, I don't think its 'new' , its just hardly used! Obviously it was relevant to use it last night as Becky was in the city centre, rather than Weatherfield or another suburb.

Peter Barlow used to have a Scottish accent when a different actor played him. The 3rd actress to play Susan also had a Scottish accent but the last 2 that played her didn't!

Facing the newer part of the Manchester Arndale shopping centre, the exterior of the NEXT store on the left, with
the former Corn Exchange building (now known as "The Triangle", a posher shopping arcade) over the road on
the right. The cameraman would've been stood outside the main entrance of The Printworks leisure complex.

It's a pity that pic reinforces the somewhat antiquated stereotypical image of Manchester being a rainy city ... !

I did a bit of research into the locations and got some pictures

Below shows exactly where this was filmed Withy Grove , Manchester, next to Next near Exchange Square , outside the Printworks . You can see the bollards which were used here

and this is the modern looking building you can see opposite

Now, on Friday's episode, a new break bumper was used - this was filmed pretty much a few steps away.

Now this one was quite hard to pinpoint, but I think this is the right location.

'Cafe' shot

I assume that these photographs from Google Streetview are a few years out of date, so this area will look more akin to the titles, I'm not sure if a bit of juxtaposition has been used.

this is a picture of the area opposite

I'm pretty sure I have the 'Café' one wrong, but it was the only possible area that had all the stuff from the shot
