Put The Telly On
after 50 years there a whole host of past characters they can bring back, like an adult Tommy Duckworth

He is coming back.

doubt there's many original cast members left to invite back, for years Philip Lowrie shunned his corry connections

wonder what a 60 something Dennis Tanner will be returning for, maybe it's to repay Ken for the packet of fags Ken gave him in episode one

I think there are 7 actors from the original cast still alive - (character names) Linda Cheveski, Ivan Cheveski, Dennis Tanner, Esther Hayes, David Barlow, Susan Cunningham and of course Ken Barlow.

The actors/actresses who played Elsie, Ena, Jack, Annie, Minnie, Martha, Albert, Ida, Frank, Florrie, Elsie Lappin, Harry, Lucille and Christine are all dead.

But how many of the "characters" are still alive? David Barlow "died" off screen in Australia, I think in a car crash, for instance. By that time Alan Rothwell, who played him, was fronting the long-running schools TV programme Picture Box, with its haunting theme tune.

David Barlow was killed off and Susan Cunningham was mentioned as being dead last year. The others actors who are still alive their characters have never been mentioned as dead.

Also the characters of Ena, Annie, Minnie, Florrie, Harry, Lucille, Elsie Lappin and Christine have never been officially confirmed as dead as far as I know.

Amazing news! Dennis was a great character and I'm glad that Philip Lowrie has agreed to return. I'm really looking forward to the year ahead on the Street. First we hear that Stephanie Cole is joining as Roy's mother Sylvie, then Rula Lenska becomes a regular and now a Tanner back on the cobbles. Very Happy I hope it's not just a short stint!

Will the scriptwriters be clever enough to remember that Dennis was a friends of Rita Littlewood and mention her one appearance in the show in 1964 when she stayed the night at Elsie's?

I hope so. I also hope they mention Elsie. Maybe we will finally get confirmation on screen that Elsie is dead.

Do you remember that video special they released as a tribute to Elsie when Pat Phoenix died? It was released in 1987 and they had Linda Cheveski visit the cobbles, ending up in Emily's house talking about Elsie's life and everything. There were a lot of references to "I was sorry to hear about your mother" and "my mother had an odd life" etc. in between all the clips, but I'm surprised that Elsie's death was never mentioned properly in the show itself.

(Or was it? Didn't Mike mention her a few times during the Alzheimer's storyline in 2006? I can *just* remember Penny reminding him that Elsie had died "a while ago"). A lot of characters' fates have never been properly examined.

I can just about believe Elsie being alive today in her late eighties, that's feasible, but someone like Ena would be over 110. Shocked

Surprisingly I have never seen that video - being only 6 year old in 1987 I didnt buy it! And ive never tracked it down for some reason although have heard about it. Should try and find it somewhere. But yes ive never been sure whether Elsie was dead or not. Ena, Minnie and Annie have also never been mentioned as being dead either and I think the ages of all 3 of them would make it unlikely they would be alive. Ena as you said would be 110!

I didn't see this at the time and I don't think it has been posted here before. It's Bid TV's tribute to the Coronation Street tram crash...

Someone's uploaded it (and several other Corrie videos) to YouTube. It's about halfway down the Playlists section.

In fairness, have you seen the other results? I think it accurately demostrates the kind of people that vote on it. (I sound rather snobbish don't I? Laughing )

This Morning as Best Topical Magazine Programme over BBC Breakfast, Waterloo Road over Doctor Who (even though I like them both), Benidorm over Outnumbered....

A new pic taken a few days ago (not by me) on the outdoor Corrie set.

Judging by that photo you'd hardly think the tram crash had been the catastrophic disaster it was presented as!

That's because it wasn't!

It's taken longer than most soap rebuilds though xD

Also did you see the new Streetcars office

It's funny how they've managed to nearly rebuild the Corner Shop, but The Kabin still looks the same as it did the week after the tram crash lol

Thanks. Smile

I cannot believe Corrie didn't win Most Popular Soap after the amazing 50th anniversary episodes. I feel sorry for the cast who worked so hard filming day and night for the storyline and they get no recognition. They better win at the Baftas and soap awards!!!

Vicki Binns aught to win best exit, hyperventilating on live tv is no mean feat

on that pic of the street the pillar box is back when it was taken out by the tram, well in CGI world it was because it wouldn't have just popped off in reality it would have made some impact on the front of the tram

be interesting to see how different the new kabin, corner shop, number 13 and flat 12 will look

I thought this rebuild was going to show us more of weatherfield but the viaduct is just rebuilt and bricked up
