Was the Channel 5 soap 'Family Affairs' filmed on a set with scaled down buildings, or actual size?

Outdoor scenes were filmed at the back of the area used for 'The Bill' at Merton Studios in South London, which doesn't seem to be awash with space.

It's difficult to tell from Virtual Earth.

It's quite small, and the façades are made of MDF attached to scaffhold. The 'Canley Arms'/'Seven Bells' is made of brick but the doorways are about 6' 2"

Well just looking at a clip on the Corrie site
It seem the DNA/forensic expert that precided over the Tracey Murder case has been done for fraud ( by fraud i mean swapping over someones DNA results etc not money! Laughing ) and Tracey appeals and pending a review of the case she is bailed, pending a retrial.

Lovely 1st episode tonight.

Also not sure if you was aware but tonights poem was written especially by the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

Carol Ann Duffy writes poem for Coronation Street
Quote:
Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has written a poem for Coronation Street marking the soap's recent tram crash.

The verse will be read out on Friday's episode by Street regular Ken Barlow, at a candle-lit service remembering the characters who died in the disaster.

"I was so proud to be asked and so proud to know my poem would be on the show," Duffy said.

The tram crash episode formed part of the ITV1 show's 50th anniversary celebrations earlier this month.

The poet, who celebrated her 55th birthday this week, was asked to pen the words after producers learned of her friendship with Coronation Street creator Tony Warren.

Viewers on Friday will see Emily Bishop suggest to Ken he read a poem at the service, being held at the scene of the accident.

The author of the verse will not be named in the programme.

The poem begins: "If someone could direct me to a street/where I could stand, cobbles/beneath my feet tearful with rain; the/shadows of my hopes behind the/stained-glass windows of a pub."

Duffy attented the filming of the episode, saying it was "magical". "We were stood in the fake snow and it felt like a real street," she said.

"If there was anyone deciding what poem was to be read at a community event it would be Ken," she added.

I did wonder about the source of the poem. She could have done a better job though, it didn't even rhyme. It would have been better if the storyline had Kirk writing the poem and then he came out with that rubbish for Ken to read.

Glad to see your knowledge of poetry is so wide. A poem doesn't need to rhyme. If you read some of Carol Ann Duffy's work you'd realise that was very tame...

She's a dreadful public speaker, though. Sorry Ms Duffy, if you're reading, which you're not.

Corrie: The Road To Coronation Street is being repeated tonight on BBC Four.

I studied her poetry a few years back in school, they fell into 2 categories; her 80's stuff which slagged off Thatcher and the Conservative government, which was incredibly powerful, and the wishy washy feminist 'men are morons' poetry which are mediocre and look like something written to appease Germaine Greer than to challenge society. The Corrie poem was tame, but you wouldn't expect a poet laureate to be anything but mild, tame and family friendly. Possibly one of the most useless positions ever, why would you ever need official, state sponsored poetry in this day and age?
