Did anybody actually notice that there were no opening credits on tonights show? It started with Janice wandering along the side of the hairdressers and then Ken walking past with Janice commenting that they'll be family soon, and Ken saying "I can't wait", then camera panned up over the street.

This weeks Corrie episodes on ITV1:

Tuesday 7th Dec: 8.30pm
Wednesday 8th Dec: 7pm
Thursday 9th Dec: 8pm (LIVE)
Thursday 9th Dec: 10.35pm (repeat of live)
Friday 10th Dec: 7.30pm
Friday 10th Dec: 8.30pm

And the Specials:

Thursday 9th Dec: 9pm, Coronation Street: 50 Years, 50 Moments (ITV1)
Thursday 9th Dec: 10pm, Celebrity Juice: Coronation Street Special (ITV2)
Thursday 9th Dec: 11.45pm, Coronation Street: 50 Years, 50 Moments (ITV2)
Friday 10th Dec: 9pm, Coronation Street: The Big 50 (ITV1)
Sunday 12th Dec: 12.35pm Coronation Street Omnibus (ITV1)

I would take the press statements about the tram crash with a pinch of salt.

They exaggerated the Carla/Tony factory siege storyline. Corrie (and all of the soaps) always play this game to gain maximum attention.

I find 1 million hard to believe.

I think it's safe to say the tram crash didn't cost £1 million.

I suspect the episode cost that, however it's likely £950k of it was spent on Ken Barlow's MAGNIFICENT HAIR.

Note in particular the shot after the tram crashes where the camera swoops round his astonishing silver locks.

Yup, and I loved the use of CGI to place the relatively small piece of "reality" into an overly inflated and grandiose sense of se... no hang on I'm getting mixed up.

Well the NOTW this weekend seemed to think it cost £5m Laughing

I know they as you say exaggerate , but on the ITV2 show, a caller asked Phil C if it cost £1m and he said yes. What that figure is actuall for, we still don't know . But I suspect the £1m figure might be say the extra money ITV gave Corrie for the whole week.

I didn't know there was a sharp bend just before you reach
the top of Coronation Street. Funny shaped viaduct!

I think this screengrab from the wide shot of the Street in the opening scene of Part 1 should clear that up.

Have a look at where I've highlighted the top right corner of the picture. It appears to be two lines branching off.
Perhaps one branch is for the Salford Quays and Eccles Line, and the other is for the older line to Altrincham.

(BTW ... If the picture doesn't appear, either my main PC is offline, or my Opera Unite server is playing up!)

I have to say I was on the edge of my seat for both episodes. I loved Corrie's joking little lines referring to the crash before it happened:

Ashley to Claire who told him to be careful: It’s a stag night, what’s gonna happen?
Sean: I’m great in a crisis – referring to Max disappearing

I also wonder if Love The Way You Lie, Rihanna playing in the Joinery with the line ‘just gonna stand there and watch me burn’ was accidental also.

Yes, the CGI on the tram, particularly the second carriage, wasn't brilliant but I really enjoyed it and honestly couldn't fault it. I liked the opening and then the closing having the same shot - nice effect.

You've probably guessed by now, I liked it. Smile

Seems the Tram Driver won't die according to Phil C on ITV2 show, so that won't be the "cop out" death as some have feared! Very Happy

Well that's good - my bets are Charlotte, Molly, Ashley and Dev then.

I was thinking as Molly i'd say is the front runner to die, the would Baby Jack not too? If it did happen, because thinking further ahead into the storyline then it would be Kevin secretly grieving for his child etc. But then similarlly if the Baby was to survive and Molly die, then if would end up the "battle" of who get's Baby Jack!
Whatver happens, seems like there'll be some great plots to come off this crash.

That's one thing I hope they do and it seeems like they will ( and which soaps in general fail to do) is have a big story and then the weeks following have not been thought throught.

Hope they don't do a Bill, have a fire and for the months everyone is grieving, and it's forgotten about by everyone except Des Taviner (the fire starter)

What in the name of goodness was the sound it made? It sounded like a roar. Honestly, it had a sort of Jurassic Park feel to it, the roaring noise and the smashing up of the shop (which is unlikely to have happened in a real crash) as others have said.

I've seen better accidents on Casualty, and that's saying something.

This was the first episode I've watched in years and I thought the ending was very well done for what it was.

It did seem odd that the explosion in the club was sudden and seemingly unexplained (well I assume it is, I didn't see or hear anything that indicated it was coming in the episode). The secondary 'disaster' of the tram was inspired - I assume they've been including trams and tram sound effects more and more recently, as there never used to be anything going over that embankment?!

The inclusion of the driver was spot on I thought, from a directorial perspective it was another shot to go to as it happened, I don't think it would have worked as well if it had been only from a spectators point of view.

Can someone explain why there was a character dialling 999 before the incident?
