Can't ITV1 show things in 4:3 any more?

What do you mean, it is being shown in 4:3 isn't it? I have large black bars on the side.

On Meridian South on DSat, it is being shown 16:9. ITV are actually broadcasting the black bars rather than letting the viewer's television/box handle it.

It does look very nice (although it's postage stamped on the screen here for some reason). I'd imagine it would have been cleaned up and remastered for a previous showing, the 40th anniversary perhaps?

I'd imagine that was the last time that ITV showed something in black and white too

It was up until last month I should think, as I think that Take That doc was in B&W for "artistic purposes"

Yeah no doubt there will! Just was a bit strange - but I suppose it's just because we don't see them in Corrie ( more in full drama's) - has there ever been a Next/ Tomorrow preview in Corrie before?

Rita screaming scared the hell out of me... Surprised[/quote]

I couldn't remember what it was that made me jump, but your've reminded me - I think that it was Rita screaming. Laughing

It's not black bars, it looks to be bricks or tiles or something.

I could just about see one of those commercial break ticker things in the top right though it looked slightly curved. Presumably it was burnt on to the recording.

Are there any lost episodes of Corrie or do they all still exist?

All episodes exist in the archive.

Well the programme itself is still 4:3 so why complain? Its not like they have stretched it or anything!

Black bars at the top and bottom on ITV analogue, which is just bizarre.

Looks better than it did on the 40th anniversary, but am sure that was proper 4:3 - after all, the current show was still 4:3 then!

The frontcap was a mock - but was there at least.

An electronic cue dot appeared before the End of Part One - maybe this is a tidied-up version of Episode 1 as broadcast in 2000?

Great first epsiode, really fast paced. Liked the opening shot, although you couldn't really spot any Wetherfield 'landmarks' in the dark.

Liked the Next bit, but was a shock, tea nearly went up my nostrils Laughing

When watching on a 4:3 TV the picture is really small with black bars at the top and bottom (because ITV1 is telling the television/box that it is a 16:9 picture) and also at the sides (because ITV1 are broadcasting black bars at the sides). Although it may not matter on a 50 year old telerecording (Am I right to assume that is what it is?) this causes the picture to lose some resolution that would otherwise be there if they showed it properly in 4:3.

The Ena and Florrie shop scene - the gem of this first episode.

Great to see the effort go beyond the big stunt itself with the 50th episodes - the opening and teaser at the end made it feel far fresher than Corrie usually does.

Would have been nice though for perhaps ITV3 to get in on the act and screen some classic Corrie episodes, rather than just having the first one on ITV1 again. I'd imagine it's the first black and white show in primetime on ITV since the last time they showed it.

That's the thing - this 50th anniversary showing appears to be much, much cleaner and clearer in picture quality than any of its previous transmissions or commercial releases.

It would have been telerecorded onto film wouldn't it? I wonder if it's been telecined from that film into HD?
