Don't be ridiculous, it's about context.

Is it right that after the events of today that arguably the UK's most popular soap airs tonight in a primetime slot with a story featuring a siege with lots of gun toting.

Also consider that Corrie has it's roots in the north west of England, it's only right that they should not air this episode out of respect today.

yeah but to be fair it's not in primetime. 10m(ish) would be watching Corrie and it's more as the photo shows your got a character being thrown in the street after being being shot at by a gun. The guns are very prominent.

The film there've got on now is some America film tha not that many people will be watching - plus i wouldn't expect has a gun throught the film, unlike Corrie.

Not a lot to lighten up about really is there, don't be so unfeeling, what happened today is a tragic event, be thankful none of your family or friends were affected

Things in this thread seem to be getting heated up, lets just wait for news on Corrie

We all know that yesterdays events were a terrible, terrible tragedy, and accept that taking Corrie off was the right thing to do, we just are eager to know when it is back

So, lets chill and watch some late night telly

I agree, in these situations it can get a bit heated, but will see what happens tomorrow!

I'm not sure airing the show today either would be very appropriate.

Anyone remotely affected by the events in Cumbria wasn't likely to be sat watching the TV last night anyway, in which case postponing programmes/adverts etc in the name of 'respect' is rather pointless.

How long do you suggest this self-imposed media censorship should continue?

I wondered how long it would take for that kind of post to be made. There's been a slew of them on Digital Sky as pointed out on Metropol:

I ventured into the soaps forum to see the reaction to the postponing of Corrie, and am quite sickened (should add, can't stand soaps myself).

Choice quotes include: "Those who've been directly affected by the events will be too busy to worry about whether Coronation Street has been aired or not.

Everybody else has no right to be traumatised by something that hasn't even happened to them."

"In my view ITV have over-reacted. It's a big Corrie week."

"I feel sorry for the 11 people that died, but it's a bit much."

Bloody hell. Do people just not have a sense of perspective any more? This is far worse to me than the complaints during the Prime Minister changeover, but both astound me.

But did I think it would be Stu that would say such a thing? Actually, no.

Makes you sound something of a sociopath. Or a Digital Spy member.

So which is it?

Pick your potato.

I was really looking forward to watching Corrie last night, as were many people, but because of what happened I can fully understand ITV's need to remove it from the schedules. At the end of the day its not going to make a lot of difference waiting a day or even a week to watch the episodes in the grand scheme of things.
