Coronation Street's 50th anniversary week will begin with a special shot which gives fans a unique glimpse of wider Weatherfield, it has been revealed.
Monday's first episode opens with a computer-generated look at life beyond the viaduct, showing the neighbouring streets and houses.
Speaking at a Coronation Street press conference yesterday, show producer Phil Collinson explained: "The shot develops into, for the first time, a glimpse of Weatherfield and beyond the beginning and end of Coronation Street and Rosamund Street.
"When we saw that shot for the first time, it just felt very epic and brilliant, and it just felt like a really lovely way of starting the week - saying to the world, 'Here's a big shot, it's going to be a little bit unusual this week and a bit different'.
"So that was the reasoning behind that. We didn't originally plan to do that, but when we saw the shot, we thought that'd be a beautiful thing to do."
Asked to confirm whether it is the first time that such a shot has been featured in the programme, Collinson replied: "It is, I believe so. And then as we go on in the week, we look the other way as well and we see even broader Weatherfield.
"Careful viewers, if they pause their TV afterwards, will be able to see the Red Rec and all sorts of landmarks that have gone in there. It's been created with a lot of love and reference to a lot of landmarks that we've spoken of for many years."
Monday's double bill will see the much-anticipated Joinery bar explosion and tram crash, which will cause terror and tragedy on the cobbles.

From what I gather it will be an actual CGI Weatherfield, not just a composite shot of the set and random Salford streets
I'm confused as to what this shot is going to be like.. and how it's going to be different from the previous titles which showed 'beyond the street'?

Not really watched Corrie all year, but not going to miss a moment of this week's episodes. They look absolutely stunning.
I'm sure it'll be fine but just hope all goes well in the live episode, especially as the rest of the week looks so superb that alone would have been an effective way to mark 50 years.

I remember the hardback book brought out for the 25th anniversary featured an artist's impression of Weatherfield inside the cover, showing street names and landmarks referred to on screen. I can't find a scan of this online, but it would be interesting to compare it with the titles.

Umm, I find it very interesting that that was made by 'ITV Studios Ltd.' at 22:45 on 26/11/10, 3 minutes before your post....
By someone using Microsoft Publisher. Quite clearly a professional
This has been sent out from the ITV Press Office to a number of newspapers in Manchester and surrounding area. This version has been provided for Metro Manchester who are running a special "Coronation Street" edition the week of the tram crash...

Yeah the whole week is one night.
Why do you say "dragged"? The live episode is on Thursday showing the aftermath. So inless you want the Live episode to be the day after on just an ordinary day, what do you want them to do?
So the actual night of the tram crash is being dragged over the whole week?
