Just a quick question about certain film trailers, particularly Harry Potter. As everybody is probably aware, any HP trailer always seems to come with copyright stuff and trademark things to Warner Bros at the bottom of the screen, and I've also seen the same occur in Sky's trailers for Avatar.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are just films like any other film, albeit considerably popular. Is there a reason why all this stuff has to be shown at the bottom for certain films?

lucasfilms were just as bad with all the starwars stuff, they even went as far as putting a trademark after "Luke" Rolling Eyes

surpose it means if you want to write a story about a boy magician you can't call him Harry Confused

It's probably JK Rowling making sure she makes as much money as possible from her unoriginal, strung-out rip-off of a book series.

How does she make money by a copyright notice being attached to a trailer on ITV? Wouldn't she get it regardless?

I would think after a decade of harry potter (TRADE MARK!) we kind of get the point that it's copyright much in the same way we know that Han Solo (TRADE MARK!) is also copyright

find it really stupid with children's characters they have to stick a tm sign after every name and image of each character like a six-year-old understands what the bloody hell a massive great TM means next to the picture of Ben Ten on his lunch box Rolling Eyes

are they so insecure they think some kid in year one is going to plagiarise them

I knew what it meant when I was young - same with the copyright symbol.

Aren't your standard slipping there, Steve?

I knew what all the symbols and initialisms meant by asking my teachers and guardians.
