Continued implementation of BBC Reith

Other than places it's already implemented (July 2019)

I have a Samsung Galaxy A51.
Sadly mine hasn't been Reithed... yet

I'm on the S10e. Hasn't returned for me, they probably started with iOS

Oof, shame us Android users have to wait longer. Sad

It's so annoying but always seems to be the way. Even though more phones run android than iOS

I'm also on iOS13.6 and it's not Reith for me...

EDIT - It appears they have updated the news pages themselves but not the list of articles. Which is the exact opposite to what it is on the website!

Took another look on my iPad and I'm seeing the same thing. Weird that they'd only update the articles but sure.

I’m increasingly convinced they’re now just trolling us with their haphazard, scattergun approach to the Reith rollout.

Apparently that’s part of the reason.

Because countless different devices run on Android, and often heavily customised versions of it, it makes it harder to develop something that works well on all those devices, versions, screen ratios, resolutions, etcetera. This also means testing takes quite a while longer too.

Developing for iOS is very straightforward (and therefore quicker) by comparison. And as the UK market is pretty much exactly split 50/50 between Android and iOS it’s very tempting for developers to start there and reach half of phone/tablet users fairly quickly before starting the more complicated work on making Android versions that work across the board.

I think the only people who consider themselves particularly ‘trolled’ by the implementation of Reith are members of the TV Forum. This was always planned to be a steady rollout, but Covid has made it much slower, as fewer people are working and collaboration within the BBC has slowed to quite an extent.
