Concorde's last flight....ever!

Today Concorde flew for the last time ever. The last big ceremony was the last commercial flight from USA whereas today's flight is the last flight of one of the Concorde's to its place of 'birth' Filton in Bristol.

The only station that covered the last flight take off was ITV1 on This Morning where the footage was, according to Philip Schofield, "thanks to our friends at LNN, who are filming it for their news programme."

I flicked onto the news channels but didnt see anyone else covering the last take-off or I just missed it!

This Morning popped back and forth to Heathrow airport and showed all the important parts including the camerman zooming in on some women not realising his feed was being broadcast on ITV1 Smile lol

Later on ITV1 - the ITV lunchtime news covered the story with the takeoff from Heathrow and mentioned that the ITV News Channel would be covering the last landing at 13:00.

Meanwhile the HTV West news opt-out at 12:45 was presented from Filton with Jenny Hull and Richard Lyddon both sporting very fetching earphones! LOL

There was also another live link to 'The Downs' where many thousands of people had gathered to watch the last landing aswell!

Peter Rowell covered 'the other news' from the studio before handing back to Filton for the last minutes. Inevitably the hand back to ITV News in London wasnt smooth and got cut off. You think for situations like this HTV West news could've stayed at Filton and handed back directly to the ITV Weather - rather than messing about with an opt to ITV News just for a quick round up and goodbye. The BBC do it in Wales, Ireland and Scotland for the 18:30 bulletin where they do not hand back!

Back onto the news channel at 13:00 and they all covered the final landing adequately but not with all the pomp and ceremony of the previous landings!
For some reason Richard Lyddon and Jenny Hull appeared on the ITV News Channel for some brief moments!

A bit of a damp squib really compared to the previous coverage but I cant wait to watch the 15:00 and 18:00 HTV West news bulletins later!

I wouldn't bother watching HTV ... Surprised their ice cream van, I mean, OB Unit, managed to keep them on-air.

The ice cream van was in Devizes yesterday, with its flip-top lid flipped up.

Goodness knows why, as I don't think there was a story in the vicinity; and I didn't think the driver knew his way beyond Keynsham.

Probably the new HTV West motto - Find a good story and sent the truck....... elsewhere!

Sell ice creams and go to the wrong town ... all in a day's work for the HTV OB crew.

Nice to see ITV plc supplementing their income by the sale of Cornettos.

Must have kept that crowd at Filton happy.

Not really on topic, sorry, but I couldn't resist posting this beautiful AP photo:

A retired British Airways Concorde is pushed through New York Harbor aboard a barge Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 on its way to the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum. The 88-ton supersonic jetliner will become the newest and most exotic addition to the museum's aircraft collection. (AP Photo/Tom Turner)

There was a shot on News 24 of the Concorde going under some bridge (don't know which one) which looked amazing, if a little wierd.

Sky News covered it in detail (in between the speeches from the coverage of the state opening of parliament).

Sky News have, as ever, been outstanding in their coverage of the retirement of Concorde.

Yes I like them titles there were aswell used for the 3:22pm update with Sally standing up in front of the CSO screen. Is it the same one used for the Weather? Also why do some presenters on the Breakfast Bulletins of Points West make out that the recorded weather forecast is live and the Weather presenter is just on the other side of the Studio!?
Also with Richard off this week Peter Gibbs has done the weather, from London, and the main two presenters have made out he is in the studio! So how does to get from Bristol to London in the matter of minutes?!

Back to the 3:22pm update and there was a massive cock up the images were not comning up behind Sally and then they did and stop and then BBC LDN came on! Did PW just give up?? Its only a 2 and a half minute bulletin!

It might be interesting to watch tonight! Very Happy

The lunchtime coverage wasn’t good by either ITV or BBC . I couldn’t understand why HTV news didn’t stay on air for this moment of local history. What would it have cost them to miss five minutes of D and M’s show. Even if it was covered by by the news on digital tv the majority of people missed out.
Points west’s coverage on the story didn’t start until half an hour after the plane landed although they had a recording of Concorde touching down.

At 3pm HTV‘s coverage was more upbeat , some excellent shots of Concorde over Bristol and Lyddo and Jenny talking about the plane.
P. west had some technical problems and ran for thirty seconds suddenly stopped and was replaced by the London news.

I REALLY hate HTV West posted:

It even rhymes, doesn't it?

Just one Cornetto,
give it to me.
Delicious ice cream,
of HTV!
