I would like to be able to watch TV on my laptop - I bought a WinTV card in January but had to send it back to the shop because it needed a USB port, which apparantely I haven't got one of. I have a Compaq Presario 1622 laptop. Does anyone know of any TV card that doesn't require a USB port or you having to completely dismantle your computer/laptop to put it in?

BTW - I am not prepared to get rid of my laptop and buy a PC!! I'm quite happy with my laptop thankyou!

The only other option is to buy a desktop computer. The other models are the WinTV PCI cards.

I have seen one for a PC card slot, (you must have at least one of these). But it was very expensive.

Im afraid that you cant get much equipment, if your laptop dosent have an usb port. Its the current standart, for portables.

Hi James

You can get a plug-in (PCMCIA) adaptor for USB, e.g. the Belkin USB BusPort Mobile - RRP around 55 pounds + VAT i think.

My TV Card used PCI. N need for USB. It slots straight into the PC. Its a modulat technology one. The software with it doesnt support Widescreen captures, so if you want to do widescreen captures, you'll have to sue letterbox. Doesnt bug me though cos widescreen isnt nececerry in any of my captures.

Im having the same problem with my Compaq Armada laptop James. It seesm that the PCM adaptor is probably the best bet, but if you're anything like me, you may also have RAM issues, and laptop RAM is terribly expensive.

I found a good supplier who offer laptop RAM upgrades, compatible with Compaq. Have a look bud, and if you find an alternative to getting a capture card without having to fork out too much, then please let me know.
