Looking on a construction/architecture forum I see that the BBC are planning a temporary studio between the BBC Scotland HQ and STV HQ. Work starts on 1 May and removed at the end of September.

Plans include a BBC one studio, radio cubicle, two roof terraces with a separate building with a studio for the regions (2 for the English) and one for the NC and WN respectively. No studio for Scotland, guessing they will be in the new one or "convert" the canteen like in the past.

Ah, good find - when I was trying to find a planning application for something in Glasgow last year, the only way to view it was to visit a council office, so glad to see they've finally moved into this century and let you search them online.

When I originally heard about the plans for this, the 'BBC One studio' was going to be the same one from the 2010 World Cup and London 2012 - looks like it might well be the same but with a bit of cladding around it. I'm not sure if the ground floor are shipping containers though; the 'stand-ups' unit looks like it could be timber-clad Portakabins.

Incidentally, the building on the drawing marked as 'Aquira building' is Four Winds Pavillion, home to Capital FM Scotland.

Govan Road is going to be absolutely jammed packed! They are already building a new Premier Inn inbetween Capital Scotland and BBC Scotland. A lot of work seems to be going on opposite them in the old Festival Park but no idea what's going there.

The work being carried out at Festival Park is for another hotel called De Vere Urban Resort. As well as a hotel, it will feature a cafe, restaurant and spa facilities. In other words, that road is going to be INSANELY busy during the Games.

Early schedules now out - pretty much as the Olympics so not too many surprises. Opening Ceremony coverage is 8-11pm, with the ceremony beginning at 9pm (as it did in Manchester). They are generally much shorter than the Olympic ceremonies - think the Manchester ceremony was around the 2 hour mark but Delhi's was nearer 3 hours IIRC.

Lovely to hear Underworld/Evelyn Glennie's 'And I Will Kiss' being used during the Glasgow Grand Prix this evening. Memories of the London 2012 opening ceremony still lingering through the BBC'S athletics coverage.

Actually it'll be interesting to see how many 2012 influences we'll see during the Commonwealth Games coverage.

Hopefully none seeing as it's not the Olympics...

On the other hand, is BBC Scotland the host broadcaster or is it the BBC as a whole?

Neither. Sunset and Vine & Global Television are host broadcaster. http://www.glasgow2014.com/press-releases/host-broadcaster-announced-glasgow-2014-commonwealth-games

BBC is domestic rights holder.

It's a large scale international sporting event though very much in the vein of the Olympics. It would be madness not to take elements from the Olympics coverage that worked well and tailor them for this event, by the same token it's also important to change things that might not have worked and try other new things, all of which we can already tell seems to be the plan.

On the other hand, is BBC Scotland the host broadcaster or is it the BBC as a whole?

Neither I imagine, in the past I think Sunset+Vine have provided the host broadcasting services. If the respsosnsbily does lie with the BBC of course it would be the network branch of BBC Sport and not BBC Scotland.

*Beaten to it by Noggin.
