BBC Red Button HD is all ready to go on Satellite, seems Freeview viewers will get too, there's a shrouded channel on air on BBC'B' currently.

Although unless they suspend or move CBeebies HD during the mornings it will only really be offering overnight live action. Seemingly no effort to add any extra streams this time too - will be interesting to see what shows up on the connected red button but as things stand this will be the least amount of coverage of a Commonwealth Games on broadcast TV since 1998. Even without leasing extra streams they could have made use of BBC Parliament considering it's in recess until the 16th.

As the games finish on the 15th, that'd be surely enough time to switch it all over. I mean, it's not like anyone wants to watches speeches from September 2017.

Remains to be seen - at the moment on the BBC Sport Live Guide only simulcasts of the TV and Red Button coverage are listed. Will be a huge scaling back of coverage if they are choosing not to show events, rather than not having the rights to them. Even if they didn't offer everything you'd at least expect them to offer streams of the key sports (athletics, swimming, cycling etc.) and also any team events featuring the home nations.

Also notice Eurosport are showing nightly highlights with an hour long show at 6pm and 8.30pm. Think it is usually a condition of events on the B-list that highlights have to be offered to pay-TV, though I don't recall Eurosport showing them before.

Is there any way of finding out exactly what is going to be shown and when? In previous years you could set specific RB streams in the EPG to record live coverage of certain sports uninterrupted rather than the chopping and changing between events that you get on BBC 1 & 2. This time all that's showing in the EPG on the RB channel is 'Commonwealth Games 2018' with no differentiation between what will be shown, which is going to make set top box recording very difficult.

If this is all the BBC can be bothered to do now, then it's time to hand over TV coverage to a broadcaster than can be bothered. I'd happily pay a one off fee to get full, uninterrupted TV coverage of all the main events throughout the games.

Afraid not, and you can't even series link the Red Button coverage on Freeview. Obviously plans change but is much more useful if red button coverage is listed by sport.

Will be interesting to see what they do with the afternoon slot as well - will they concentrate on replaying the key moments from overnight which were covered live or focus more on the events they've not had time to show, such as the group games in the team events.

That's really annoying, so unless you switch to aussie time to watch coverage live and keep up with the channel changes, you can't be sure if you're recording the sport that you want to watch.

Cheers BBC.

The BBC’s coverage of all winter & summer Olympics since 2012 has been woeful.

Amazing what happens when your budget is squeezed by an unfriendly government and your ability to send correspondents to the locations necessary is constantly questioned by their hounddogs in the Tory press.
