For a while, Granada I'm sure had am office furniture firm as well.

TVS also, at one point, owned Telebug enterprises.

I am fairly certain that ‘Westward’ were the ‘West’ in ‘Pro-West’, manufactures of tv equipment that went on to become Pro-bel. Used to work on one of their vision mixers, not a bad bit of kit for the era.

Clyde Broadcast, manufactuer of radio studio equipment, was a spin-off of Radio Clyde - and they're still based in the same building.

Ah yes, and didn't Canford Audio spring out of the engineering dept of Radio Hallam, or Metro, or both ?

More of a strange afterlife than an alternative business, but after losing its franchise TV-am became a casino company, Crockfords, as a result of a reverse takeover. Still technically exists as a non-trading company owned by a gaming business called Genting.

Yep and in the same way TSW became a safety footwear manufacturer. I believe that company has ceased trading too.

TVam in its last year was one of the members of the consortium that won the licence for what became Virgin 1215. Not sure how that worked out when the company was wound down but IIRC Sir David Frost was on the board of the company for a while because of it

The chairman's statement on the 1992 accounts (available at https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/01533947/filing-history?page=8 ) has a bit about it. (I'd transcribe or screenshot it but can't easily do it on my phone)

Bruce Gyngell was listed as a director of Virgin Radio.

Of course there was Trident TV, which owned Windsor Safari Park and a scenery construction company called Watts and Corry in addition to Yorkshire and Tyne-Tees.

After Trident was forced to sell most of Yorkshire & Tyne Tees it went through various changes before merging with Grand Metropolitan which owned (among other things) Burger King. Eventually Grand Metropolitan merged with Guinness to form drinks giant Diageo.

Westward TV had an airline and dabbled with Tourism marketing and art exhibitions:

Granada existed before they got into telly ! They started in the 1930s doing cinemas. My first ever visit to a cinema was a Granada one in Chichester Sussex, 1973 to see the Bond film, Live and Let Die (Ironically (or perhaps not !) prompted
to see it after watching a review on Granada TV's Clapperboard childrens' programme !)

So... have these channels ever got into conflicts of interest? and/or shameless self-promotion? Surprised

Yes, a joint venture with Grampian of all people, with a factory in Maidenhead by 1968. Kitted out YTV with a fair bit of kit when they launched.

Interesting !

Difficult to find too much on the interweb about Pro Bel's history. A press release from 2005 when they merged with Vistek states the company was formed in 1977, and the Companies House website has the incorporation document from that year
