Probably cause they get more people involved, and create more merchandice. Plus you manage to get a more uplifting feeling from this night, as apposed to CIN who in my opinion place waaaay too many campaign videos amongst the programmes. Overkill it and people go from generous to bored. It's horrible but it's true, they end up not wanting to watch anymore.
But I guess you have to remember that this is every other year, whereas CIN is every year. So you can half the figure technically compared to Pudsey's efforts.

Why does RND always end up with a final total small hours of Saturday morning MUCH HIGHER than CIN?

CIN is yearly, and thus the total is amassed from only one years' worth of corporate donations etc. Comic Relief is biennial, thus the donations will be higher as a result (cf. Sainsbury's £9m total).

Latest total £29,748,187.
Funny how they've managed to amass that total already, and it's only 21:35, yet CIN night last year it took them till 2am Saturday to hit £20 million odd.

Ah yes I forget about that. Probably hasn't got the money behind it just yet to be as memorable. But give it a few more goes and perhaps that'll change.

Yes, that's right: Red Nose Day in March in odd numbered years, and Sport Relief circa June/July even numbered years. That's when they have "run a mile for Sport Relief".
Therefore really Comic Relief gets money donated every year after all, just like Children In Need.

I think it's got a more professional feel to it this year, and the presenters are being a lot better in my opinion.
Plus the moments of reflection [to give chance to donate] are a nice balance between the sketches. Sometimes the product can forget its purpose, this year it certainly hasn't done that. Even the musical numbers are subject specific... not like the Ting Tings are coming on singing some random song as a publicity stunt like you sometimes get elsewhere!

Safe areas anyone? It seems to me that an AWFUL lot of stuff shot in the studio where the LED walls are in shot showing phone numbers or totals fall outside even 14:9 safe area.
Anywa, what I've seen has been pretty good. The junctions between the films and the comedy have been handled pretty well (something CiN relies on Terry to do, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't!). For example, the song by Elbow worked so well after the Malaria film...
Watching TOTP now on Beeb2. GOD I miss TOTP... why on Earth don't the BBC bring it back?

Well we've now hopped across to BBC Two for Top of the Pops, whilst the 10 o'clock news is on BBC One.
Remember to switch back to BBC One at 10:30 to continue enjoying (or more like enduring) the RND coverage there.
