I think Sport Relief is just the compromise which allows them to do something every year without diluting Comic Relief by making it annual. Personally I'd prefer it to a music event, but I agree it's not in the same league.
I do think it needs to move back to June next year though - having it in March last year when the weather didn't really allow people to do much sport related to raise money wasn't the best idea.
Unless you personally donate in excess of £50million, then no, they will not.
The nail has been hit firmly on the head - RND made £57m. It was a huge success. Don't expect any radical changes to the format in 2011.
Okay to recap the end of night totals from the last three RNDs:
2005: £37,809,564.
2007: £40,236,142 (increase of just over £2.4 million on 2005)
2009: £57,809,938 (well over £17.5 million up on 2007, an increase of more than 40%, despite the recession).
How on Earth did they manage such a big leap in the end of night total from 2007 to 2009 in a recession? All the scaremongery people are short of money and don't have the money to give, I have my doubts.
Radio 1 raised between £1.5-£3 Million alone (can't remember the exact figure now).
I believe that this year people were just a lot more generous, not everyone in the world is a mean b*st*rd you know
Radio 1 raised between £1.5-£3 Million alone (can't remember the exact figure now).
The Red Nose Climb raised £3 million. As part of that, Radio 1 raised £1.8 million, which was through website pledges and £1 text donations. Pledges for the other climbers were pretty pitiful up until the documentary aired on the Thursday, which launched the £5 donation at the end of it: counting for the other million.
TOTP - If it was just a one off, why have that week's Top 10 chart?
Oasis - Where was Liam?
U2 - Overated IMO.
(Barry) Islands In The Stream - Great song. Bet you never expected to see Larry Lamb on TOTP!
Franz Ferdinand - Pretty standard performance until the Tennant popped up on stage.
Whatever the No1 was - Gawd blimey & as for the additional 'dancers', ..... !
Claudia Winkleman - compared to Davina, you're certainly missing something!
(If you can't work that out from my cryptic comment......clue Davina's got some front!)
Horne & Corden - Never got the joke, if there was one is the first place?
Mamma Mia - Can't really compare as I've never seen the film to compare(I know, someone who ain't watched the film. Get over it!(But I've got the soundtrack CD!))

I think a large part of the 2.2m would be personal sponsorships of each of the climbers - Chris Moyles mentioned sending out letters to people who have been on his show to plug things asking for a donation.
I think Radio 1 also did a bit during the day itself, certainly on the Chris Moyles show.
One thing missing this year was a CBBC special - they did a Blue Peter Comic Relief special on the Wednesday, which kind of missed the point, but there was no special on Friday, though as Ed and Oucho were pictured in the promos, I'm guessing it was referred to during the links. You'd have thought they could at least have moved that Blue Peter special to Friday.

2.2? I'm guessing that's a 3.2 typo, possible overall number, I forget. Radio 1 raised 1.8 million through website pledges and texts, leaving 1.2 million: and the majority of that, from memory about .8 million of that came after the airing of the documentary. Up until that was shown, Radio 1 listeners raised 90% of all the money raised through the climb.
And personal pledges? Not really... those donations would have been tracked by Comic Relief if actually made, right? And the only way of that happening is through the website, and you can choose a climber when donating thanks to the climb.
I think the personal donations were likely to be quite big amounts rather than a tenner here and there, such as the £5k Lewis Hamilton donated, which would be doubled if Moyles completed the climb. I suspect that such donations would have been handled seperately to via the website.
Oh right, well, ones like Lewis' one probably wouldn't be going through until it was all over and done with, so who knows where that comes in to the count.
I just heard on R1 that about 1 million was raised by the text donations (the £5 ones). So that's 1 million from the £5 donations, 1.8 from the Radio 1 audience, and atleast .2 million (whack on however much over 3 million it got) from other pledges, including those made through the Red Nose Day website.
The thing I don't get is that Comic Relief seems to get massive totals on the night, £40 million last time, £60 million this time but Children In Need seems to hover around the lower £20 million mark each time.
