There seemed to be much more focus on the UK side of the charity this year.

Hmm I disagree, I think there was the right balance of appeals between UK and Africa.

JCB didn't say there wasn't. I believe he/she was comparing it to previous years.

And so am I.

Exactly. Comic Relief should stick with less singing, because it's about comedy. The clue's in the name. Singing would just make me more likely to switch off.

But comedy doesn't mean tommy rot, which we had far too much of last night. I've just quoted the live stand-up comedians/satirists, hypnotists, and magicians I'd have liked to have seen interspersed among live songs and other stuff.

I'd agree, except that they would be unlikely to do anything for Comic Relief, and I doubt they would pull in the figures like Little Britain or Ricky Gervais would, sadly.

But we still don't need that many live songs. Just the official and unofficial Comic Relief singles and that's it.

Regardless of what we all thought of the content of the telethon, last night was an overwhelming success and in some way gave me a little bit more faith in the GBP who even in the midst of a recession, managed to dig deep and give what they could. I spent the night at my work ( a call centre) taking donations and in six hours we managed to take just over £60,000 in donations. A fantastic result.

I wasn't watching this years event, because I knew it was going to be rubbish (I like Robbie Williams but really enough of Little Britain for one lifetime).

What was this years Amarillo and Proclaimers song?

Around 4pm this afternoon...donning red noses.

So basically, anything you don't like gets chucked out?

We're not all six years old.

Not only are certain people on here taking the evening waaaaay to seriously seeing it's COMIC Relief.. but the need for stand-up [which as I've mentioned previously, for charity events is nothing but 2nd hand dvd material] is rediculous.

As I also said before, original scripted segments starring people from all walks of entertainment life... who want to do their bit to raise money... is far better and more rewarding than seeing someone do the same old jokes they've done not only on their DVD but at The Apollo aswell!

I assume Comic Relief was in TC1 (TOTP in TC3?) but with the "Lets Dance" programme tonight - have they done a fast turnaround with TC1, or is Lets Dance using a different location?

Sponsored set switching?

One other observation from last night - thankfully after what's happened since the last Red Nose Day disclaimers were kept to a minimum, with the only one being related to the texting option. I found it odd though that they stated you had to be over 16 - for competitions you understand why, but in what way could it be wrong for under 16's to donate a fiver to charity, assuming it's coming off their own phone bill.

Ignoring Tumble Tower who doesn't seem to understand anything, I think it was a pretty good night overall. On the whole, very slick, some very funny bits (others bombed, but there we go) and very powerful appeal films. Tennant worked very well as a presenter.

The only real complaint is that I think there could have been a few more live bits in the studio, whether they be sketches with other comedians, some standup, or more things involving the presenters. However, having Mastermind and the Friday Night Comic Relief News was good.
Oh yeah, and was it me, or were U2 actually a prerec on the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross set? I was watching on a small 4:3 crappy TV, but noticed there was no crowd reaction or shots of them, the set was different, and in the darkness in the BG, it looked to be Ross' set.

It was definately a pre-record - like you said, lack of a crowd and a different set.

Not sure if it was Ross' set though.

I think it was an expanded stage area of Ross' set.

I thought a hell of alot of effort was put into totp last night, does anyone else expect an announcement soon about its return. I think it may also use the pink and blue neon logo as the logo at the moment is very contempoary.
