And, "coming up is a group of Welsh stars with a tribute to Newport!" - didn't the "Newport Ymerodraeth State of Mind" song get banned?

No, only removed from YouTube due to Universal Music or whoever putting in a copyright claim.

Besides, that's so last summer.

No longer seems to be the epic show I remember from years past, certainly a lot of VTs. Did anyone else think the Ant and Dec segment seemed very low key? I appreciate they're probably busy tonight to turn up themselves but little was said about how to auction. Does the BBC have to be a bit careful in promoting rednoseday.com I wonder?

Ah well at least R1 has been good over the last couple of days. Top effort by the team.

I hope not after the ridiculous brand promotion of the likes of Kellogg's and Walkers!

It was really really depressingly dull and unfunny for the first few hours, then after 10pm it briefly became really funny with the Rickroll and James Corden sketch, and has been hit & miss since.

The scheduling is all wrong - Matt Smith as Doctor Who appeared on set with the TARDIS at about 11pm, long after millions of his fans would have gone to bed. The Corden sketch was mostly pre-watershed friendly (bar the occasional mild swearword which could easily be replaced) but not shown until after 10:30. And the audience have been dead the last couple of hours, you could see Jimmy Carr squirming uncomfortably as loads of his jokes bombed and even Ricky Gervais was met with silence.

Not quite as big a disaster as it seemed early on, there's been some great stuff but buried way too late in the schedule. They've already beaten 2009 though so it's another success.

The Newport Ymerodraeth State of Mind song was credited to EMI Music Publishing at the end with a © date of 2011, so wonder if it's not going to get an official release?

And Lord Prescott 's turn at Radio 4' s Shipping Forecast for Red Nose Day also went well.

Yes the Ricky Gervais sketches were very odd, and unfunny

Karl made himself look like a bit of a **** tbh.

Presentation wise; the set reflects the direction the show has gone down these past few years - slick but dull. To be fair they still raised over 70 million so it seems unfair to tell them what they're doing "wrong" but it is a shame Comic Relief has lost it's quirkiness and energy.

Also, I've been watching for 45 minutes or more and I don't think there's been a total, nor any live links to places like BT Tower or so on.

And the point of doing a 'live link' with the BT Tower would be what exactly?

Overall, a very different feeling, unless I'm remembering wrongly.

I only saw bits of it and it seemed like a progression from last time and Sports Relief. The smaller set did make it seem cosier

My god, this has been the most surprisingly dull Red Nose Day ever!

Absolutely no promotion have I seen, except banners on the BBC website. Last time I had a great RND, loads of people were doing loads of things; this year, nobody even brought in a Red Nose! As for the show itself, the set was huge last time and had a great atmosphere, but this year its quite small and I was surprised how low-key it felt.

Is RND on its way out?

Judging by the amount raised - I'd say probably not... They have set a new record for their on-the-night total.

I haven't watched Comic Relief for a couple of years - and it felt noticably better this time round than the last time I did.

Tonally it felt much more assured to me than it has in previous years - possibly a result of it mainly being presented by some of the best entertainment presenters in the industry (minus Ant'n'Dec)?

Really? I thought there was more pre-RND stuff than ever this year - documentaries, the desert trek, the stand up thing, the inbetweeners, Moyles, ant & Dec etc. All of it was pretty good too, possibly why the evening was lower key. It's probably also why they made so much, although the text donation would have also been a factor... just too easy!

Possibly, there might not be a need for the telethon-style programme when they can do multimedia fundraising over 3 months
