So, this weekend saw Channel 4 try to launch the Comedy Roast to the UK audience with roasts of Bruce Forsythe, Sharon Osbourne and Chris Tarrant. Well, they were reasonable, but not as good as the US originals. Which is why I'm so pleased they've decided to show the roast of William Shatner to show how it should be done. Far cruder (hey, I've no shame) and far crueller - and because of that far, far better too. I remember downloading this four years ago and being creased up throughout. Now I'm looking forward to the roasts of Joan Rivers and Pamela Anderson.

"Far crueller"? Half the time was wasted by a torrent of compliments and hero worshipping, along with licking, tasting, and kissing. Farrah Fawcett was crap, most of the others were lacklustre - the only enjoyable ones were George Takei and Betty White.

I think C4 made a mistake really showing these on consecutive nights as ratings collapsed after the first one - would have been better shown across three weeks really, and out of the shadow of the Comedy Gala.

I'm sorry I don't get this show at all.
Just a load of celebs being abusive and trying to go one better than the previous guests.
What's the point? We know it's either egotistical rivalry or totally false insulting and begs the question why the main celeb would wish to take part. Most of the above I imagine.
Ghastly.
C4 have got to be careful with this sort of stuff.
I'm not sure which sort of advertisers wants to be associated with this type of programme.

Tried to sit and watch the one with Bruce Forsyth and it was cringe worthy to watch, I turned over part way through the second half.

This programme mixes up being rude with being funny, calling someone a tw*t for no reason is not funny. Rolling Eyes

In Sharon Osbourne's case, probably because of the amount of bad press shes had since leaving X Factor and being completely exposed as a vile hag; so she can claim not to take herself seriously. Plus shes not exactly got much of a profile in the UK anymore so gets her mug on telly or in the papers whenever possible.
