This year TMF is trying something new and has decided to start showing classic comedy. It might be something new, but it really is drifting away from the music theme of the channel. Which explains why they don't say 'The Music Factory' fully on air, and turn to using 'TMF' instead.
What do you think of this? Should they turn to showing comedies instead of music? Or vice versa?
it's 'The MUSIC factory' for goodnes sake. They should stop showing 'dora the explorer' or whatever it is in the mornings and show music, possibly a TMF Chart like the 3 download chart on the Hits

Very rarely get music on Music TeleVision - normally get shown around famous-for-five-minutes "celibrities"' houses followed by a double dose of South Park, then music through the night.
This move on TMF may improve choice for Freeview users though.
Well, it kind of mirrors what has happened with MTV over the years - so it's not surprising that MTV want to use their space on Freeview in a similar way.
No problem with a couple of hours of programming here and there, but the majority of the schedule should remain music focus.
I'm not really that bothered to be honest, if I want to see music videos I'll go onto YouTube or MySpace, and there's still The Hits if I'm
that
desperate. If it gives more choice to Freeviewers then I'm in favour of it.
Out of interest, which 'classic comedies' are they going to be showing?
I think over the next few years we'll be seeing even less music on the music channels as they struggle to survive. Times are changing again and we've got instant access to music and videos thanks to the likes of You Tube and MySpace which are now doing to music channels what they did to shows like "Top Of The Pops".
TMF mixing music with comedy might work on Freeview but I doubt it will have much of a impact on the other platforms. It didn't work for PlayUK.

And PlayUK actually had some good programming; moreso I feel when it was UK Play - akin to today's UKTVG2.
It doesn't improve the choice of music channels for Freeviewers. My major problem with analogue NTL was that we only had three music channels, two of which never showed music. We're now heading towards this situation on Freeview.
It's up to MTV what they do with TMF, but I'm not a fan. And the point about PlayUK is well made.
I think TMF by the day is becoming far more a showcase channel (alá Sky Three) rather than one that used to play Music Videos 24/7. I don't know what's going on at Eggcup towers but MTV seem rather enthusiastic to showcase Nick Jr on Freeview and now what is effectively parts of the Paramount Comedy channel being showcased.
Though flicking through the Freeview EPG last week it was a nice surprise to see a couple of episodes of Cheers being shown.
I think the problem lies in the fact that TMF is MTV's Freeview channel. To be honest, I wouldn't see much of a difference if MTV and TMF merged together. I rarely tend to watch neither these days.
