In addition to some of the 16:9 modifications, the symbol clips shown tonight have all looked very stable and noise-free.
Whatever amount of restoration was involved, I thought it was a job well done!

On plasma screens though, it was blatantly obvious that they'd put black squares over certain bits because the old black was grainy yet the bit they'd pasted over was nice and clean. It's hard to notice that on editing monitors, but i've always made a point of recreating any noise on old clips if i use old ones and replace certain bits, it just makes it look a touch more authentic.
Still it looked good overall

The amount of restoration involved varied depending on the source material. Firstly, I personally didn't lift a finger - all the pre-85 material was sent to me by Dave Baldwin who loaned his master VHS some years ago and at the time I dubbed these to VHS as this was the pre-DVD days. I then forwarded my own dubs to various webmasters including Mike at TV Room, who in turn provided it to the makers of tonight's show.
Rory Clark provided a digibeta of the 1977 Christmas Pudding, but the BBC2 ident from the same year came from the BBC's own archives. The credit for the former is to Kaleidoscope as opposed to Rory personally. We very nearly missed the editing deadline and Rory's tape arrived just in time.

This is true - I'm viewing on a CRT so in my case it really wasn't noticeable. Part of me doesn't want to get an LCD or plasma anytime soon, but that's another matter.
Re: End creds, darn those squeezes interrupting the flow...But I guess it's still nice to be acknowledged ain't it, regardless of text size! I suspect they'll let it roll fullscreen for the repeat.

Oh yes i too am part of the 'Keep CRT, death to Plasma/LCD' club, my main TV is still a CRT, i just happened to be watching on my parents plasma
It's a kind of downside that editing monitors are amazing quality, because they sometimes don't show the artifacts and errors that come up when things are eventually viewed on a home TV. That's why i tend to use both.
