Comedy Central to air Friends in true HD

No really, true HD and 16:9. Honestly. (August 2011)

If you compare that promo to the one on The Ident Gallery, it seems they have changed the soundtrack. How odd.

Go to the YouTube account of the guy that made the pitch to Comedy Central and he has both versions there: http://www.youtube.com/user/stevenjohnseller - along with all the other promos.

I wonder if these will contain the C4 edits or will be completely unedited?

The pilot on the US series 1 box set has a scene with Pheobe singing at a subway station which hasn't been aired on TV.

Would assume that as 'new' masters are being used, that there's a fresh canvas and that any edits applied would be new.

Nope everything is the same. The titles are all the same, the odd thing where the credits in the titles for the pilot aren't aligned with one another is still there, the original logo overlay with the slightly bright dots is still there - the edits are exactly the same.

That's the rock version. There's also another version.

As I've said several times before, I have copies of the HD versions from TNT Serie HD and have compared them to the original.

Little details such as the claps in season 1, episode 3 missing, and the disappearance of the logo a millisecond before the titles cut to another shot are left in.

Also the font on the titles in the earlier series is the font from the later series.

EDIT : Can't find an SD one that hasn't had embedding disabled, so maybe tile two browser windows?

The font used on the HD version of the episode 1 titles above is definitely the later version, without a doubt.

Oh yes, that's the only error I've found - but it's remedied in later episodes.

For anyone who was interested in the ST:TNG talk earlier in this thread, Next Gen HD on Blu-ray has been announced by CBS today: http://www.startrek.com/article/the-next-generation-blu-rays-launch-in-2012 . Like Friends, CBS are also going to make Next Gen HD available to broadcasters as well.

Can't say I've noticed any so far, but the HD is really benefitting the older episodes, I'm watching TOW the list right now and can't believe how much better it looks.

Comedy Central SD and +1 are showing Friends in letterbox mode like any other widescreen programmes they have. If they can't be bothered broadcasting in 16:9 SD they may aswell leave the shows in 4:3.

EDIT: Worth noting that the filler shots of New York and the Bright Kauffman Crane end cap aren't in in HD they're cropped and stretched respectively.
