Anyway back on topic, anyone remember Filfthy, Rich & Catflap ? I got the DVD & though it was alright, I presume it didn't do so well hence the single series?

I'm a Rik and Ade fan and I have the DVD too. It was featured on the Comedy Connections episode of The Young Ones and Nigel Planer explained how after the first series, the cast just went their seperate ways.

Was Thames 1979 Comedy "canned laughter" a pre date Mr Bean with out voices

You're on the right track..

1) It was made by LWT, not Thames
2) It had dialogue, Rowan Atkinson played a student who asked a girl out on a date, and I think he also played a foreign waiter in the same programme aswell.

It was also home to the sketch of how to make a cup of Coffee when you break your cup, something that was repeated on the beginning of Bean: The Ultimate disaster Movie.

was it just the one?

It was a bit crap but the end music was great. Also Rick & Ade were funnier when they wrote for themselves with Bottom. I love that show and Gas is probably my favourite episode plus the one where the baby is left on their doorstep at Christmas.
