What has come of Granada HQ?

I spent the day in Manchester today and finally got the chance to walk around Quay Street and see the old Granada studios. It was a privilege to see them, but the feeling was bittersweet to know that its history has come to an end. But I noticed the Coronation Street tours were still active, and that security was still up and about around the area. However, the entrance seems to have been occupied by somebody (not that I could tell). I was reading up on Wikipedia about what is supposed to be happening to the building, and it's given me mixed information seeing as it probably hasn't been updated in a while. There is a bit that claims the studios are open to the pubic for six months in 2014 before being demolished (I'm not sure if this is a reference to the Corrie backlot or the actual Granada building) while another claims the building is being renovated.

Does anybody know what is happening/happened to Granadaland? And is there any truth in the claims that the building is still open to the public?

Are these plans dead in the water then?

The Old Granada Studios thing does sound like a temporary use for the site rather than permanent venture.

Something similar happened to the BBC's place in Marylebone. It got used as art workshops and a theatre for a year or so, but long term it will be redeveloped

Does anybody know what the tower with the neon logo was for? I think it's based in the old Corrie set.

The tower of Stage One looks like would have been a conversion of the building that was there before when it was part of the railway yard. Its definitely on the attached OS map from the 1930s.

Clock tower/Bell tower for the yard perhaps - the clock fitting in the neon sign, and the shutters at the top for the bell tower? http://i59.tinypic.com/2eqdn36.jpg

I think I've heard of it being referred to as a water tower, though I could be confusing it with something else.

Wasn't that in turn the subject of one of ITV's World Cup idents?

Is the L shaped building next to the Bonded Warehouse what became used as the Medical Centre. I could never work out if that was a new build at the same time the main set was built, or if they used an existing building for it.
