Playing devil's advocate - if the joke of the Chinese girls is purely "because of their 'slitty eyes' and failure to speak English", then would that suggest that they're pushing the limit of offensiveness?

Yes, I'd agree that those characters are nothing but stereotypes / "racist". I've not seen them in it since which makes me wonder if they've been cut, because they're inexcusable.

No, the series just has characters that appear once and never again - the main reason it's set in an airport. Every episode has had one off characters

It does seem you missed the joke behind in that sketch, it wasn't the girls but the reason why they were there: they were implausably huge fans of Martin Clunes. Yes it was playing to the stereotype of fanatic Japanese girls... but then with what other stereotype would fit that joke?

Of course it would have been better if the butt of the joke had actually been able to appear, it does seem a bit more gratuitous without him

I don't think that is the joke behind the sketch. The joke behind the sketch is, as Walliams and Lucas have said themselves in interviews before the series went out, "Japanese girls often adore unusual celebrities". They even said they chose Martin Clunes because Japanese people wouldn't be able to pronounce it properly. In this case, the sketch is based entirely on the stereotype.

Conversely, there's a sketch where Taj chases after Rupert Grint. Here, the humour arises from the fact that Taj merely wants to get his screenplay made, and there's a funny punchline at the end. The joke there isn't "Taj is of Asian descent, let's take the piss".

it is simply not acceptable and portrays extreme racism.

I must have missed the varying-degrees-of-racism class.

I was more shocked/impressed they got away with snorting white powder through a rolled-up tenner on primetime BBC One. (Edit: The white British customs officers did this, I should add)

"I dunno what it is about Lee but I'm getting quite a gay vibe from him. Mind you, you know the difference between a straight man and a bisexual, 2 pints of lager Wink"

Throughout this series and indeed Little Britain too, Matt and David have taken the piss out of everybody. Gay & straight, young & old, black & white and Dennis Waterman!

The BBC wouldn't broadcast it if they thought it was racist!

The exception that proves the rule is Lenny Henry whiting up for that film a few years ago.

No matter what colour he is, he's bloody awful.

Well I tried watching last night's episode. I'm afraid I thought it was total pants.

Do they have scriptwriters? If they don't they really need them. If they do they need new ones.

Well by sounds of it the BBC have given the go ahead for a second series, after the initial run has been apparently the most successful first series for a BBC comedy in 10 years.

First and last episodes were the weakest for me. But the others were much better than Little Britain for me. Very well observed humour.

Certain characters look like they won't return - Tommy the burger flipper, the immigration officer. I hope that remains the case - to keep the show fresh - which was a problem with Little Britain for me - too many characters overstayed their welcome.

Well the first episode did inherit a bumper audience from the Christmas edition of Dr Who Wink
