I know they were dropped in the 1997 corporate revamp, but when were they introduced? Along with the COW in 1985? Earlier? Later?

1988 is when they were introduced.

Earlier than that - 1986, but it took a quite a long while for it to start appearing everywhere.

When I was having a look at the BBC World site, I noticed the current logo was copyrighted in 1996 - a full year before it was revealed to anyone!

Oddly, the BBC video tapes (and audio ones -- imported by Strand Marketing) still have the old logo with the coloured lines underneath. That despite the design of the box having changed recently. Why aren't they using the new one I wonder?

BTW didn't Wales have all-red lines, Scotland all-blue and NI all-green (politically-sensitive there!!), or am I imagining it?

I'll clear the fog for you Billy, we are talking blank videos, not BBC programme videos.

Yes, and the BBC blanks are not of course produced by the BBC, nor do they have much to do with them. They're produced in the far east and imported by Strand.

They market them as premium product, when they are nothing of the sort. In fact they're the same tapes as Woolies are selling for 70p each at the moment!
