cock up on BBC Wales a few moments ago - during Dragon's Eye

Dragon's Eye had a world cup promo sound mixed in over the prog. sound - couldn't hear what the guy who makes windfarm towers was saying. Promo was the one with the who's " won't get fooled again" music -it's just come up again now at the end of the prog. Hee- Hee . Silly TC must have been previewing promo during prog and accidentally mixed it in. Laughing

BBC Wales isn't having a good night. The sound on Dragon's Eye cut out for 5 minute while David Williams (on his last broadcast before retiring) talked to Rhodri Morgan. And then there was that short overlayed sound problem. No mention of it on the programme or by pres. And now on the timeshifted Question Time they had a few problems with the tape spinning forwards or backwards.

Oh, I missed the start of the prog. so didn't witness the sound cut-out, and turned off at the start of Q. time . Any insiders at Llandaf want to tell us what happened ? Razz

Well I can't speak for the audio during the repeat - sounds like an audio lead of the next schedule item - but the live origination on 2W at 21:00 was beset with audio problems early in the programme, so the ROT had to go off for an edit before the 22:35 repeat. I don't remember there being a loss of audio during the Rhodri Morgan piece though, so perhaps that's something that crept in during the edit.

What an exit for David Williams!

Many years ago, back in the 80s, a BBC2 Scotland "opt out" programme ran for a full 30 minutes with the Scottish pictures and the network sound. It was bizarre...and there appeared to be no attempt to correct it, or offer an apology.

Half an hour is a bit long to try and ignore really. Most news items that go wrong are quickly covered up due to the professionalism of the newsreaders- such as when ITN "cut" to a reporter outside the law courts in London -during the eighties ( long time ago) and unfortunately the editor , or whoever , had lined up the wrong " take ". All went swimmingly until said reporter stumbled over the odd word , exclaimed "OH SH IT " and - that was it . It cut back straight to the presenter who carried on with the next item as normal. If you'd blinked you'd have missed it. You'd have said to yourself - " What was that , - no , couldn't have been.... ".
Those ever so professional days seem to be long gone in some areas these days. I can't remember the newsreader's name , but she was female.

5 minutes? Are you sure?

Well the programme wasn't live, so that's why they didn't mention it.

I guess it was like that when it went out on network BBC One.

I know swimming across the channel is a mighty task but that's not much of a reason to leave a great programme like this!

Surely an apology over the end credits would suffice?

Surely, I guess, someone at Broadcasting House would've spotted the alledged network error and removed it from the repeat!? It doesn't seem like rocket science to spot mistakes and remove them? If the general public notice it surely the BBC staff must've noticed it aswell?

I pay my license fee for this level of service?

Yes but that's assuming that the director had realised there had been a problem.

Well the director's responsibility is to monitor the output of their channel, not the network channel. It's not possible to do both 100% of the time and it's not easy to re-edit a network programme while it's being recorded and/or while you're already transmitting it.

Given that Question Time isn't live, any tape spooling within the programme should have been edited out before it was transmitted anyway.

Glad to see the bbc is still stuffed full of professionals ( and apologists ).
