Another cockup earlier - probably automation related again as the announcer didn't mention it, but the ident into Cash In The Attic or one of those silly daytime programmes was cut off abruptly leaving a blank screen - rather similar to the cockup on Channel 4 on Tuesday night at the end of The Simpsons.

How long was the c4 blank screen? I wonder if it was part of providing a suitable opt-in point for the web streaming service, which shows something else during the Simpsons.

C4's black screen seemed to coincide with where the ECP would have been over the end credits.

But try operating a channel these days with a gallery full of people replacing the computer. Not only would it be very costly, and you'd need more people than 10 years ago due to TV being more complex.... but it also arguably wouldn't be as good a final product.

It probably wouldn't need to be so costly if you lost tat like ECPs, restricted programme trails and relied more on the announcer to form the backbone of the junction.

Just look at how much faster and slicker TV presentation is now compared with when it was all run manually, and add in the factor of everything that now goes with a TV channel such as widescreen switching, AD, Interactive applications etc. It goes wrong occasionally, but it is on the whole better

That's not the impression given by the clip that started this thread! "Faster" is one of the faults of modern presentation; it might be an ego trip for the suits in Marketing but more impersonal for viewers

And just when it can't get any worse...an embarrassing hash of the BBC News Special this morning. More details in The Newsroom.

I saw Asa's cap, OMG that is appaling, they didn't even use the Ballet ident, and the cock up with the junction was a bit cringeworthy "Cash in the Attic" when this day is soo important to the whole of Britain. Rolling Eyes

Yes, and you could go back to the old days without widescreen switching, subtitles, AD, PDC and EPGs!

The clip was very fast, just too fast.

The speed and slickness of junctions is nothing to do with 'marketing', compare a junction from 20 years ago with one from now. The transistions are much sharper now, there's no need to hold on the end of an advert for 3 seconds any more or have long rambling announcements to fill time. The technology has tightened everything up

Somebody appears to have been fader wánking excessively on BBC1 this morning with all the levels being ducked and risen as the CA is speaking. What gives?
