One thing about the "Holidays are Coming" Coca-Cola advert is that it has the old "Always Coca-Cola" slogan which has been dropped a few years now...

Christmas ads... the Irish Post Office is still using the same Snowman/"Walking in the Air" advert that they have used since, well, forever at this stage this year.

No sign of the Penny's (that's Primark to you across the water) song this year though, it may finally be gone...

So am I the only one that objects to Coke (and others) using the word 'Holiday' at this time of year?

Holidays are not coming, unless you're going Skiing.... for the majority of us Holidays are coming in July and August. It's like those Gap adverts years ago: 'Babies, that's holiday'.... er no Holiday is sun, sea and sand.

The fact is that the word 'Holiday' means something very diffrent in the UK than it does in the US (their 'vacation' is our 'holiday') If they're going to broadcast american adverts here they'd may as well tailor them reflect the local vanacular.

Agreed. Holiday = summer, Christmas = winter. Get it right, Coke!

Moving on, anyone get the feeling Tesco are mis-judging the whole Christmas thing this time? I can see these cheap white adverts being dropped at some point in the next 6 months

Those ads seem to be giving Tesco the image of being the "cheap" supermarket, which can be both a good and a bad thing. Sainsbury's seem to be aiming for a slightly more upmarket image at the moment - not that it's working...

Yeah, and just when you think they've got rid of Jamie Oliver - "I've travelled to Naples to find out how Sainsburys keep their fish in such good nick.." Rolling Eyes

Yeah. The Christmas Buyer ads are very quirky, not that Christmassy, but they fit in with their current style of advertising I suppose.
Though I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have salmon on Christmas Day!

And North of the Border Wink

"Primark, got a whole lot of things for Christmas, got a lot for the fam-i-le-e-e..." - that's more confined to radio these days.

OT, but over here they pronounce Primark differently, they say "PRY-mark" instead of "PREE-mark".

Any sign of UTV Christmas presentation yet? They were showing trailers with the snowflake by this stage and this day last year they first showed their Christmas ident...

I believe that this ad is used extensively WORLDWIDE.

For a country that has a loat of so called born again Christians - The US - to not associate Christmas with a special feast does surprise me.

Christmas is traditionally referred to as 'The Holidays' in the US that's where it comes from.

Another ad that has appeared every Christmas for many many years:

'There's millions says Geoffrey all under one roof'

And a rubbish idea for the store to come from space.
Why couldn't they have just reeee done the advert with Computer Animation to update it and keep Geoffrey. It's a shame that removed him, surely a character is a great way to sell yourself to children.

We walked around Toys 'R' Us the other day, it's still quite big, and I thought how big it must feel for a kid, no wonder I used to love going, though Mum used to use it as a treat for Birthdays and Christmas, ah memories!

Don't like that ad much myself. I must say that I haven't seen the 'old version' of the Coca-Cola Holidays are coming ad for some time now... Just the new version, and I can't say that its been plugged many times
