Well, just watching AsiaNow, I've noticed that the standard aston set has been replaced. They're very similar to the previous set, but now have a moving background, and now animate onto the screen. The markets on-screen display has also been modified, now with a new sequence between the changing markets.
I notice though that the ghastly LIVE DOG in the top right hand corner of the screen has survived.
Well, I don't have any capturing facilities I'm afraid. All I'll say is I don't think they're much of an improvement on the old set. If anything, they look a bit worse really.
It's a subtle animation - it doesn't coming flying in like Sky's or N24's.
I've not seen World Biz This Week, but I have seen the Insight ones. World Report also have their own astons now. These ones were updated, animated versions of the standard news astons.
OK. This is really quiet strange. AsiaNow has the new astons AGAIN. And it can't just be special graphics for AsiaNow, because the markets listing thing that sits under the CNNI DOG is different as well - and there's no reason for that to be made different just for one programme. Hmmmm...
The new astons have been rolled out across all CNNI programmes now, and their are some other changes as well. The CNN logo DOG in the bottom right of the screen is now a red colour like CNN/U.S., but with a rotating world right of it, the markets BUG also animate like the new astons do, and the ticker has been redesigned, with a "menu selection" effect for the things like Newsbar, Sportsbar etc.
I just saw the changes there and I think that the new look works well. The changes are so small, yet noticeable. I also prefer the red CNN logo - looks much better IMHO.
I liked the old ticker, and the way it had the different "segments" - News, Business, Sport. This new ticker is EVEN BETTER.
One of the things I found weird about the old graphics set was that the size of ticker text was bigger than that on the astons. That's been fixed up this time around, with the aston text bigger.
It's a good refresh of the graphics. Alas, the ugly LIVE dog has survived. I don't know about whether the Breaking News graphic is still at the top of the screen...
