For anyone who watches 'NYPD Blue' (is it aired in the UK?) or 'Babylon 5,' Andrea Thompson is an evening anchor for Headline News (6P-9P US Eastern Time).

She left acting a couple of years back and went to work for a station in Alberquerque, New Mexico. She got hired by CNN early this past summer to be part of the new team of anchors on the revamped Headline News.

We went to the USA recently and we saw CNNfn being broadcast in McDonald's which is a sister to CNN Headline News and CNNSi.
CNNfn is a mixture of CNN and CNBC. We never saw CNN HN though. But CNN(America) is very different to the CNN we get on NTL.

The set used in those pics is the one they use for weekend and nighttime broadcasts -- I guess it's easier and cheaper to operate than the large one. CNN Headline News's website has some very high quality behind-the-scenes pics…worth a look.

Blake, OT, (this doesn't merit its own thread), but are ABS-CBN's newscasts called 'TV Patrol'? And if that's the case, are they still using the theme music from 1997-ish?

(Again, sorry for going off topic...)

What you all are accustomed to is what we call CNN International. It is broadcast out of a separate studio at CNN Center here in Atlanta, with separate anchors for the most part. CNNI runs in overnight hours on CNN/US, and fills the entire weekend slate on CNNfn (which will become CNN/Money sometime during the first quarter of 2002). CNNfn runs financial news and coverage of Wall Street during the day, and since 9/11 has been running CNNI coverage in the 12A-5A (ET) time slot.

CNN also has CNN/Sports Illustrated, which is closest to Sky Sports News or Eurosport News. It competes directly with ESPNNews in the States.

CNN en Espanol is a Spanish language news network that is aired in the US and Latin America.

CNN Airport Network is carried exclusively in airport terminals across the US.

CNNfn is based in New York, but all the other CNN networks are based at CNN Center in downtown Atlanta. They all (with the exception of Airport Network) have decent sized studios. Airport Network is run out of a studio the size of a closet. Most of their programming is repurposed Headline News and CNN/US programming. They don't have their own anchors on a lot.

CNN Radio is also based in Atlanta, and carries news on the hour and half hour to their stations in both English and Spanish (as CNN Radio Noticias).

Finally, you have two separate newsrooms for CNN's internet operations. CNN Interactive (now just called CNN.com) is based in a large windowed studio on the atrium level of CNN Center (when I was there, we called it 'The Fishtank'). The other CNN online operations are run out of a newsroom on the 10th floor of CNN Center's south tower. There are addiitonal online newsrooms (albeit much smaller - more like one or two machines) in CNN's bureaus in Hong Kong, London and New York.

The main 6pm newscast is still called TV Patrol, but it got a major relaunch when the anchor, Noli De Casto announced his intention to run for senator. Incidentally, he got more votes than many of his competetors combined and even though his party got few seats in the senate, he was number 1.

Anyway, it has a new set and three presenters and a slightly reworked version of the old theme tune. I'll try and dig out some screen grabs for you soon. ABS-CBN's 11PM English language newscast The World Tonight was moved to ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel) and was replaced by quite a few different Tagalog formats, until they settled on one called Headlines.

Ah the Philippines. My home country. Smile I should get a tape of ABS-CBN stuff. That should be pretty simple to do.

I really liked this ident from them with a computer generated rooster flying over the Philippines. Quite grand.

I wonder why The World Tonight was moved to ANC? Last time I saw the channel, it was shown on both the main network and the news channel.

Blake, would you be able to get a couple of idents?
