CNBC Asia relaunch

So will Europe follow suit? (January 2004)

Yesterday CNBC Asia relaunched with a new look - new astons, HotBoards, and titles - all in the style of CNBC US' new look (adopted when they moved to their new Global Headquaters).

CNBC Asia was badly in need of a makeover - but they could have gone in the direction of CNBC Europe (revitilisation and improvement of the previous look) rather than adopting the downmarket and psychedilic look of CNBC US.

Question is will Europe follow suit and adopt CNBC US' look as well?

I didn't get a chance to see CNBC Asia last night/this morning. I'll have a look tonight.

I think that CNBC Europe will no doubt follow sometime soon, as they see that CNBC Asia has upgraded - I suppose they will be forced to do it as well. However one difference is that the graphic designers at CNBC Europe always like to edit the main titles to add the text 'Europe' somewhere in it. So it might take a bit for them to go through all the programs.

I hope with the new look we see an updated ticker - it still is the old look (like two pipes) and PLEASE fix that nasty CNBC Europe weekend DOG. It flickers like mad and it looks all wrong.

I'll have to tune into CNBC tomorrow morning to take a look...

Just had a quick look in the planner there and the Asian programming starts at 10pm - they did this for a while a few weeks ago, then during the Christmas break it was basically MSNBC or a repeat of European Closing Bell. Looks like the CNBC Asia Squawk Box is here to stay in the 10pm slot.

The Asian ticker hasn't changed with this new look, though the stack has.

CNBC Asia have Market Watch titles of their own (in the US style - it was in fact Asia Market Watch rather than CNBC Asia Squawk Box that I caught the new look on). Plus I imagine they have Squawk Box titles of their own (given that the US ones have pictures of Mark Haines and Co's faces on them!).

For CNBC Europe, they would need unique titles not only for CNBC Europe Squawk Box (can you imagine them... "Cuthmore...Bojuesen....Johnson...europe squawkbox" - no, I don't think it would work) but also TBiz, Morning Exchange, Agenda Europe - only the Closing Bell titles could be simply re-edited to incorporate the word "Europe"/"Frankfurt".)

The new CNBC US music has grown on me (esp the Squawk Box version) but I still prefer Europe's anyway.

Wasn't the positioning of CNBC's Asian ticker changed when the Europe one was repositioned to sit over the U.S ticker?

Watching the U.S. output on CNBC Europe on boxing day gave me a chance to see the US stack on screen properly for once (which is normally covered over by CNBC Europe during European trading).

I was rather hoping that CNBC Europe would have changed the design of their stack by now, but with Asia having changed their graphics and music, it must be coming to CNBC Europe sooner rather than later.

As I remember last time, when the previous on-screen look was introduced outside the U.S., Asia had it first followed by Europe. But I noticed on watching the Asia output recently seeing a short flash of a old CNBC ident into a ad break, before Europe realised and opted out.

I caught it last night and there were no pictures of Bettina, Mark Laudi or Bernard Lo.

There is no Agenda Europe anymore

What would interesting is, will Asia Market Wrap change it's name to Asia Closing Bell?

As for CNBC Europe changing to the U.S, sorry to disagree with you, but I can't see it for another year or 2. Unless they decide to do it, their informercial shopping product's have just brought in alot of money.

BTW does anyone know what's happened to Nigel Roberts? Confused

And there's me looking forward to see Kudlow and Crammer! Infact I've been on CNBC Asia's website and they've got Kudlow and Crammer after MarketWatch, whilst here in Europe we've got re-runs of U.S Closing Bell!

Been watching CNBC Asia Squawk Box for a bit there.

All I can say is that they have done a really good job of keeping the look of CNBC US. Sometimes when they try to take a look, there is bits that don't look right. Their astons are good as well as their charts (albeit not animated). The only difference that I noticed is their LIVE graphic - that is completely different to the US version and their coming up graphic is different as they don't have the equipment to render the fancy flashing effects over video.

One thing I've never got about CNBC Asia is how their Hotboards do not have the flashing icon ((( ))) at the current share price like CNBC and CNBC Europe do. They should really have incorporated it into the new look. It makes them look like they are the poor relation to the other two...

I wonder where Serena and Nigel have gone... both are AFAIK still listed on CNBC Europe's web site....

Like I said, I hope Europe doesn't adopt this look - all those flashing colours and animations, while they look very nice, are rather inappropiate for a serious business channel.
