I vividly remember it, because he had a sous chef with him called Vince, and I remember people complaining to Points of View saying Gary bossed Vince around too much. And whenever I saw Gary Rhodes after that, I always wondered what happened to Vince.
The hounding of Vince was, of course a pre-arranged act.
I spoke to Gary briefly about Hot Chefs in 2006 on a book signing event on P&O's Arcadia where he had one of two ship based speciality restaurants.
There was no malace, Vince had been in the kitchen at The Greenhouse in London (where Rhodes won the first of many Michelin stars) for a couple of years, so was used to the rather dry and sarcastic put downs from 'chef'
I asked him what he was upto these days, and back in 2006, whilst not in regular touch, Gary said that Vince was working for Sainsburys in ready meal product recipe development.
