Did the last ever broadcast from the BBC's studios at Lime Grove (which must have been 1990 ish ?)

I think the only non BBC work he did was as Southern TV's main presenter of Day by Day ? Only for 18 months because they lost the franchise of course.

A brief view of BBC Lime Grove studios in London back in 1992, prior to demolition.

And that gaff is a real stinker! Wherever she got her journalism qualification from must be suffering from terminal embarrassment about her gaffs.

I mean how can you confuse Malcolm Muggeridge with Cliff Michelmore???

Has she got any?

Precisely. Two very different people and very different careers. We all make mistakes. But that's a pretty major one.

How did that work at Southern Television come about? Did Barry Westwood leave?

He retired I think, although there was a Friday night regional discussion programme called the Barry Westwood Talkabout, I can't remember whether that was before or after he left Day by Day ?

Cliff's appointment might have been to earn brownie points for the new franchise application

I understand Barrry, who was one of the nicest people you could wish to meet, just got a bit fed up with it. He had had two long stints presenting DXD and I think he'd felt that although it was a very good programme it was time to him to leave as it had become a bit of a routine for him personally.

Cliff lived in the area, and with his pedigree no doubt would have been seen as a good replacement, possibly also for the reasons you think. There was plenty of in-house talent that could have done it competently if that was route Southern wanted to go down.
