Hi, for all of those in Granadaland I've been racking my brains for some memories of old regional adverts.

The 1970's

BOC Better people to buy from (featuring Bernard Manning (I think) dressed as a king in a car showroom!

Rotters discotheque

Prestons of Bolton (jewellers)

194 Radio City ad with stills of Norman Thomas in Action (there's a thought!)

from the 1980's

Manweb & Norweb (shop electric, get a good good deal from your e-lec-tricity.....Board shop!)

Warrington-Runcorn Newtown & Eileen Bilton (with a rip off version of Vienna by Ultravox in the background)

Those low-budget fertilisor ads in between Bob Smithies Down To Earth..

1990's to now...

Granadaland Ford dealers..(Granadaland now jettisoned of course)
Trafford Centre with the great Queen backing Don't stop Me now

Anyone think of any more....?

One of the classic Tyne Tees ads had to be the ones for Dickens Home Improvement Hypermarkets in the mid to late 80s:

Where in the world? DICKENS? ....THAT'S RIGHT!

Like regional TV, Dickens is no longer with us - it was bought out by B&Q a few years back.

On Yorkshire we used to have Mike's Carpets where Mike used to walk around his carpet emporium pointing out the offers. They haven't been on for years though. They were cheap but were quite good in their own way

Mike is now apparantly a millionaire so could still afford to advertise on ITV1 Yorkshire if he wanted to

Granada only (Thank God)

"Home, Home On The Range......." (with that old geezer with the annoying voice who is the spitting image of Stuart Hall)

People here who love classic regional adverts should watch Channel once in a while. What with the 4:3 picture as well as other things, you'd swear you were still living in the 70s.

To be fair though there are some exceptions. There are a few very well made adverts which you'd think were national ones. The Rivoli Jewellers one springs to mind.

I wish I could remember the name of the firm, but here on the station once called HTV West we used to get an awful HTV networked commercial for a dreadful garage in Llangollen.

They totally failed to appreciate that if I were to drive the two-hundred-plus miles to fill up with their most excellent petrol, I'd need to fill up with a tankfull down here first, in order to get to them.
