Does anyone remember the good old days of CITV when they used to show He-Man every Friday at 4.40pm? I used to rush home from school and watch it every week without fail. I was a huge He Man fan and still am and would love for ITV1 to show this great cartoon series again. The recent remake was good but not a patch on the original series.
Does anyone know if ITV still hold the rights to show the original He-Man cartoon series?

Don't know, but it is available on DVD to view, and view again. Yours to treasure - and keep on treasuring.

Wasn't he-man on at 415/420 and never 440?

I always thought Fridays 4.40 meant Fun House for me. Didn't Knightmare use to be on a late Friday slot as well (possibly to begin with)

Not for the first two series of Knightmare, no. They were aired on a Monday, later a Friday from Series 3.
Fun House didn't start until 1989 and I dare say it shared the Friday slot with Knightmare and some other programming during the spring and summer. Still it lasted longer than the original American version.

Strangely enough a lot of programming ideas we import from America tend to last longer here than they do over there. American Fun House lasted two and a half years, we got 10 years out of it. Finders Keepers we got collectively eight years out of it, it lasted only two seasons in America.

I always wondered how He Man managed to pull his sword out of the scabard on his back without slicing his head open Shocked

I have the pow, pow, pow, bloody sword's got stuck again! Mad

I also used to love Knightmare as well. Other favourites around that time included Thundercats and Dogtanian and the Muskahounds. There were lots of great cartoons in the mid to late 80's, but He-Man is probably my personal favourite. I'd love to see it on TV again. I always wondered maybe Boomerang could show it someday or Cartoon Network. I doubt ITV will ever show it again, especially now with them reducing it's CITV programming even further.

Thundercats, Defenders of the Earth, Bananaman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (later renamed 'Hero' Turtles in the UK due to some un-PC complaint) Count Duckula - I especially remember watching that Saturday mornings before Wacaday. Heaven forbid Timmy Mallett was entertaining as a kid!

Five seems to have lost its way in the afternoons. I'm sure they could easily revamp its schedule to include a "childrens" block that could include classic shows such as He-man.

Don't forget that RTL (owner) actually owns all Cosgrove Hall cartoons that were made whilst it was owned by Thames! And that does seem to be its classic period!
