This weekend Freeview channel The Hits (also on satellite and cable) has got rid of it's normal playlist and replaced it with classic songs from the past 20 years or so.

Check it out, it's great and makes TMF, which was for the first had a classic hits playlist, look even worse. Well done Emap!

I don't know why either company has taken so long to catch on to this idea for Freeview customers.

The Hits has been good this last couple of weeks - a year of hits since it first began and now this classic weekend.

I dunno why TMF don't have programmes on certain years or stars a bit like VH1. Would break up a lot of the same cheesy songs repeated god knows how many times. Would make a nice change.

It would be great if The Hits became an interactive classic hits channel. At least it would make it different from sister channel The Box and would really give a choice of music for Freeview viewers.

Well as there are only two music channels, I'd like The HITS to stay as a modern music channel and TMF to play older music. My only complain about The HITS is that so much of it's playlist is R&B.

The weekend has been great. Would be better if their graphics were smaller of course but never mind. Actually - is the DOG smaller or is it just me?

The thing I don't understand about The Hits is why they use those terrible graphics for the song titles when the rest of their graphics are high quality - they've had a year to sort them out now.

I agree, its all the same amount of stuff. But if its not RnB it'll be Pop. Would you like to see the Cheeky Girls or Misteeq? I know who I want Smile .

Is the same size as usual but it got much bigger last week for the year of hits. I like it at its current size - if we have to have one, i'd like that.

Did anyone see Michael Jacksons Thriller yesterday? The whole 13 mins DOGLESS at 9:30pm. And again everynight till the end of classic hits wkend! Good on you hits! Very Happy

Tickerless, 'Classic Hits Weekend'-less, Logo-less, popup track info less. Nothing, not a single computer generated anything! The whole vid, including Jacko's disclaimer and end-credits. They actually took the trouble to turn the graphics off after the video before it! Superb! Very Happy

N.B. Still had the 'Press Red' thing but I can press EXIT to turn it off Very Happy

EDIT: I assume that the weekend ends at the end of sunday, hope not though Sad

Well, yes actually! They could play a wider variety of music for a start. I can hear music on the radio, I watch The HITS to see the videos. The videos for the Cheeky Girls are much more interesting than R&B videos, which usually consist of whichever R&B artist sitting in the back of a modified car with his/her 'posse'.

I'd much rather have a mix of 'Smash Hits' and 'magic' on The HITS instead of the pitiful R&B crap we have now.

Since you put it that way, a Cheeky girls vid would be a good laugh to watch and RnB vids do tend to be the same. But I think the same applies to Dance music videos, most of the time there are just people dancing to the music. There are some exceptions like Make Luv by Room 5 but most (Pretty green eyes) are just someone dancing to the music. A bit boring me thinks Very Happy

I'd have to say that the hits tend to have the same vids or types of vid. This classic vid selection is superb, i'd like to see some classic vids, some pop and a sprinkling of other things. Some Novelty records would be nice too (Monty Python - Every Sperm is Sacred, anyone? Razz )

Don't know if you saw VHI last weekend but there was a 100 Worst Videos, showing novelty records like Shaddap Ya Face by Joe Dolce, etc Smile
