Classic Emmerdale

Having just read Asa's announcement ( ) and as 1999 looms, I may as well ask: how far *should* ITV3 go with these repeats?

In all likelihood, they'll try and get as close to the present day as possible (obviously, progression will slow considerably once they reach October 2000, which by my reckoning they'll do this autumn). But if one feels they should stop at some point beforehand (and then go back to 1989 or whenever), when should that point be?

Just saw Belle born today, so presumably we'll be seeing the Dingle's house move from location to a studio set, as the move was done with the reasoning that the location was too cold for a baby.

As was typical for soaps too, she looked nothing like a new born baby and was suprisingly clean, especially for a birth that was done in the middle of a pig shed with no preparation.

And as I said, first sighting of the set version of the Dingle's house today- you can quite easily tell the difference.

I’m a little surprised to see that ITV were still using “end of part one” and “part two” captions as late as 2006. I’m not sure if this practice stopped overnight across all productions or if the change was gradual. Apart from repeats, do any programmes still retain that wording on bumpers/EOP captions?

Emmerdale was one of the last shows still using them. Coronation Street had stopped using them in 1999.

Heartbeat used these captions right to the end, although of course the final series stretched out over two years.

Both shows were Yorkshire productions, presumably with a lot of shared crew, maybe some of them were responsible for them being kept so long?

Did Heartbeat keep them because it was a period piece? The intention was for it to look as though it could have been made in the 60s (except for being in colour)

If that was their intention, it didn't matter as everyone had fell asleep after the opening titles anyway.

Why exactly are End of part one and Part two captions frowned upon these days? Personally don't see the problem with them.

Possibly because the make it more of a hassle to reversion programmes for other channels with more ad breaks.
