The BBC also uploaded a good chunk of its idents to its website at around the same time (BBC One definitely did when they were using the full length ones of what they have now) so it wasn't unique to E4 at that time. In fact I seem to recall many of the bigger broadcasters did this at the time, then for reason stopped it.

Its s shame there still not around, Its a bit of a mess knowing when what idents were used where,

Are these ident actually from 2001? : http://www.tv-live.org.uk/tv-presentation/channel-4/e4/2002-2003/ Ie part of the original package?

The only other stuff from E4 from before 2004 is here:

E4: Between 2001 - 2004.
* 18 January 2001 : http://tvr.metropol247.co.uk/thetvroom.com/ch-4/e-4-01-01.html Where still used until 2002?
* 9 Thursday August 2001: http://tvr.metropol247.co.uk/thetvroom.com/ch-4/e-4-03-01.html
* Late 2001: http://tvr.metropol247.co.uk/thetvroom.com/ch-4/e-4-05-01.html
* Spring 2002 http://tvr.metropol247.co.uk/thetvroom.com/ch-4/e-4-08-01.html and http://tvr.metropol247.co.uk/thetvroom.com/ch-4/e-4-08-05.html
* Jan 2003: http://tvr.metropol247.co.uk/thetvroom.com/ch-4/e-4-10-01.html

Some of the idents like 2002 are just plain weird.
Is the next post dreaded?

Patrick Allen also starred as Narrator / Captain Star in TUGS. He was also the narrator of the "nuclear warning" part of Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Patrick Allen. Dickson adopted his style when he took over E4 and he's now probably more famous for his delivery than Allen was. It's easy to forget he was the voiceover on Bruce's Price Is Right as his style was strikingly different back then.

He also did a couple of series of Family Fortunes, and again sounds totally different to the voice people assosiate him with.

He did loads of things. Perhaps most notoriously he was the voice of the (unused) Protect and Survive nuclear outbreak advice PIFs.
