The Sontarons have not been seen since The 2 Doctors and even longer for The SIlurians/Sea Devils (last seen in Davison's era!!)
These monsters/baddies I feel that are very underated and very under-used, especially The Sontarons, who could actually match the fear that is created by both the Cybermen and Daleks. As they have been very underused they could add a new element to the new series whilst keeping the continuity from the old series - be better than over using Daleks and Cybermen like they have done for the past 3 years!!!!
Its like the first episode of New Doctor Who when they brought back The Autons - its about time they were used in aother story!!!!

Ever heard of overuse? The Autons appeared twice before the new series. The sontarans have to m'knowledge appeared 3 times, sea devils twice, ice warriors 4 times. We don't need them back!

Over-use - in no way in almost 45 years or more of Doctor Who! Over-use can be used for The Daleks, Cybermen, The Timelords (except The Doctor), The Master.
The Autons last appeared with Jon Pertwee - 1971/1972 - over 30 years ago!!!! - up until being used as a sub-plot to re-introduce The Doctor and introduce his new companion 2 years ago!
The Silurians/Sea Devils last usage was early 1980's - over 20 years ago
The Sontorans - mid 1980's - about 20 years ago.
It is time to refresh these so-called baddies as the younger generation will no nothing about these foes. But I bet they are fed up with the continual use of Daleks and Cybermen and from possibly next season over use of either The Timelords or even just The Master!
The Daleks - about 10 times in last 3 years (old series - more or less every single Doctor and during 1970's more or less every series - including Paul McGann's one-off Doctor (although never seen during the film)!
The Cybermen - about 5 times in last 2 years (old series - more or less every single Doctor - except Paul McGann - and again during 1970's more or less every series
Ok what about the Slitheen - used twice during new DW, or about the residents of New Earth, Absorbalof, or Cassandra ??? I know which foes I'd rather see!

You mean a series full of monsters that never do anything.

Or the Jadoon? The Grask? Gas Mask People? The reapers? The Wire? Carryonites? Richard Lazarus? The Family of blood and the Scarecrows?
Honestly, bringing them back for the sake of it would be stupid. In these classic stories, the monsters met their sticky end. It wouldn't make sense to bring them back again. Just look at the classic Phillip Hinchliffe era, they hated bringing back monsters all the time, and preffered to stick to new ones, that was considered the Golden Era of Doctor Who.

How about the new viewers, monsters like The Sontarans would be more interesting to bring back, and more fiendish, rather than the popular old ones (i.e. Daleks) as they have not often been seen.
Sontarans are a race bit like the old Third Reich and could be just as terrifying as such - just needs the right story. Out of all the new omnsters I have liked, so far, favourites are the time creatures from Series 1 (episode featuring Rose's dad) and the moving angels from Saturday evening, just gone. By far the best monsters, so far, of New Doctor Who.
Remember new viewers (especially the younger ones) know nothing of the previous Doctors monsters so its a whole new world for them!!!

Don't bring them back for the sake of it then.Make it good.
And that egg really should have hatched by now.

Bloody hell I never knew putting that question out there would cause such a debate
I watched The Leisure Hive this evening & found it a rather good story although not one of the best. Tom Baker's Doctor was yet to get angry as he seemed as normal in this episode.
Watched the first episode of The Three Doctors (just about to watch the other three episodes) & have to say I'm enjoying the bickering between Troughton & Pertwee making me laugh

Superb epi last night I felt. Those angel of death creatures were very creepy, inspired idea. Medusa in reverse in a weird way; a bit mean implying that all stone statues are the same at the end, all those poor kids they freaked out
JO
Yeah some gullible kids will be a bit scared of them now
I've taped the episode but not watched all of it, from what I've seen it's definately a much better Doctor-Lite episode compared to last years
