OMG ok so I am the saddest man who has ever lived but I’ve only just found out that The Vault (sky digital 356) show old episodes (in full - exactly as original transmission (par the adverts of course)) of ITV's The Chart Show. I was in my element whilst channel hoping I found it and this too me is great they bring back such wonderful retro memories those were the days Very Happy

PLAY

I have noted there is a regular slot for it Saturdays at 11pm but they do seem to put it on at other completely random times during the week (not always the same episode as the Saturday) so now have to add a weekly going though of the channel for the whole week and +ing every time I see it.

I'm sad ok but this is exactly the kind of thing I want to see repeated, I love to look back at my teenage years with memories of Saturday lunchtimes. if this one channel maybe has realised there is a tiny minority of us who do want to watch repeats of most would call 'throw away - of that week' shows from yester-year then maybe just maybe there’s a slight chance we 'could' start to get other things and...

FAST FORWARD

I quite like watching the repeats on The Vault too to be honest - brings back memories of Saturday mornings as a child.

The music's crap right enough.

I just to give such a huge Thank you to Virgin for ditching the Sky Channel's that was a blessing in disguise, I'd never have switched to Sky gotten this channel and found this if you hadn't lost them. Thank you Mr Branson. Very Happy

Fine, stop spouting on about that you left VM for good ol' Sky. It's not exactly life-changing, merely a change of supplier FFS. What next? "Have you ever thought about letting Sky into your life?"

You're not sad, merely dippy with nostalgia, lot of that going around.

He's the one that suggested this so maybe he really is!

I didn't know about this (I've probably still got a couple of editions on old tapes) but it'd be nice to see again 'on the telly' in digital form. I'll keep a lookout for it, if only for those whacky CG sequences between songs and of course the nostalgia trip! Laughing

Someone around these parts was requesting Chart Show episodes from a particular era, but that was months and months ago - I wonder if they've discovered it?

They're showing various episodes from 1991-1992 and 1996-1998. Not having the abilty to play quarter inch videotape or D2 is stopping them from showing the rest of the episodes at present but they're very nostalgic and much needed compared to the rubbish on the terrestrial channels on Saturday mornings.

The fairground set from the late 80s/early 90s are definitely my favourite graphics that were used on the show. There are also a few episodes lurking on youtube as well.

This might sound rather bizarre, but this being TV Forum and the observation being Chart Show related, thought it worth a mention that there's an odd 'blub blub' sound on the circa 1997 'Chartbreaker' stings, that I think sounds suspiciously similar to the sound effect used on a certain BBC 2 'Wave' Ident introduced in 2000.

If you ever catch one of these eps, listen out for it.

The one just on has been interesting - Lisa Stansfield and Tori Amos both being in the Top 10 with near identical sounding songs - same tempo, same samples! Laughing And White Town's one-hit wonder 'Your Woman' at the top spot, [trivia] the trumpet sample from which was taken from 1978 BBC TV show 'Pennies From Heaven' [/trivia]

On a side note as well, I can't believe I forgot about the whole colour coded chart mover thing - Green for climbers, Red for fallers and, err, an Orange colour for non-movers.

Both were just acapella's dumped over the same Armand Van Helden instrumental.

The original version of Professional Widow (Tori Amos) is alot slower, never heard the Lisa Stansfield one (if that's not the original)
