You would think they'd at least target the traditional post-school and weekend slots to give kids an extra reason to tune in to their channel rather than a rivals.

Aww loved that era growing up as a kid, brings back memories with the "It's A ---- Kind Of Thing". Got a bit daft when they had all the newbies come in, though the bigger studio was cool.

Including the young male newbie who only lasted a couple of days. Mainly because on his first day Danielle asked him what his favourite CITV programme was and he nervously said 'Live & Kicking' then stunned silence. There was a video of this on Youtube I saw a few years ago but can't seem to find it now.

Do you know when that would have been? I remember the big presenter search they did in late 2001, where the viewers were supposed to choose 2 out of 4 new presenters but they ended up hiring 3. And then a few months later Danielle and Tom suddenly disappeared leaving Stephen to present with the others. This was the same time they recoloured the background of the idents from light blue to dark blue (and the graphics and set changed slightly). As far as I can remember, all of those presenters ended up staying longer than a few days!

CBBC are the only ones left with in vision continuity to their credit.

A bit disapointing really, when you think going back to around 2000, everyone except Cartoon Network had IVC (I think even Fox Kids did at one time), and I think Disney still had some live out-of-vision continuity for a while even after dropping IVC. I think Nickelodeon were the ones to keep it on last, I remember they took on Jamie & Anna for a while after they were dropped from Toonattik. I always preffered it myself, much better than just trailers and generic pre-recorded "up next, on later" etc. announcements, which is all the kids channels seem to have now.

I have no memory of Fox Kids having in-vision, but I do remember when Jamie and Anna were on Nick for about 2 years mainly in the summer. I think the first year it was actually live and had one of those choose the programme gimmicks and was on in day time, but in the second year it was only on weekend mornings and seemed like it was pre recorded.

Was this "Tom"? Now better known as Arthur Darvill, who played Rory in Doctor Who for a few series.

ISTR him being introduced alongside a female presenter, who called in sick on her first day and I think I only remember seeing once or twice thereafter. This was all to coincide with the new studio (the one with the tubes of CiTV fish).

Tom was there for a while, so it can't have been him.

I have no memory of Fox Kids having in-vision

From what I can gather from what people told me, it was in the channel's early days, pre-2000 anyway. I'm sure I remember an advert for the channel I saw in The Beano in the late 90s that mentioned it.

Tom and Andrea were the two new presenters who turned up in around 2000 to present with Stephen and Danielle. Then, as said above, there were new presenters in late 2001. Leah, Leigh and err, I can't remember the bloke's name.

That late-90s, early-00s CiTV really was fab. I'd moved over to it from CBBC by that point, and it was really great.

When talking about the CBBC/CBeebies-esque split, don't forget Telly Tots, which began in 2000, I think, as an alternative way of framing the pre-school programmes. It was a return for Steve Ryde to voicing characters, as it was an out-of-vision cartoon continuity set in a very yellow cartoon world. There are a couple of clips on TV Ark. It's notable that they didn't run either show's credits when they should have done, instead coming straight out into the next bit of cartoon continuity. Then, after the Telly Tots theme and sponsorship sting (it was sponsored by MilkyBar for some time) the invision presenters would pop up to advertise the upcoming afternoon schedule as both shows' credits ran concurrently down one side of the screen.

Also, when was the ill-fated "stripped" era? It seemed utterly bonkers to me as a kid at the time and it meant that Christmas episodes of shows went out in December, as they made the scheduling moves after the commissions had been made. I'm sure others can remember the details far better than I can. But it was a total failure. After all, who wants to see the same shows every day on end?!

Yes, Tom was with another presenter, not sure what her full name is but I think it's Andrea, she didn't call in sick on her first day, as her first day was with Tom on Boxing Day and she called in sick on the day they unveiled the new studio on the 3rd of Jan 2000, if my memory serves me correctly. I think she was even on that short lived Saturday morning game show on Citv called It's Not Fair around 1997-1998 ish, they mention it in the 20th Birthday Bash they did.

I think the stripped era was mostly 2001 and carried on until early 2002, the first day of them doing it is on YouTube somewhere, with strangely Fearne Cotton on it as well, also the guy they got in late 2001's name was David, he also did Diggit on GMTV.

Oh and in that clip above, those HTV break bumpers look quite out of place, they should probably have not run ITV regional break bumpers during CITV. I can't remember if this applied in all regions,

I'm pretty sure Granada did. As the regional companies ran the adverts, they probably didn't see the breaks as any different to any other time of the day. CITV-branded breakbumpers would've been a nice touch though.

This seems to be the YouTube link that you're talking about? It also Telly Tots end credit sequence that I described earlier. It seems that the stripped scheduling happened earlier than I remembered then, if the date on that video is right - it took place right at the start of 2001. (And who knew, Paul Akinboka has done something sensible online for once...!)

If it was new year then presumably Fearne was covering for the other presenters being on holiday?
