The problem SM-TV had was that all three presenters left the programme in a very short period of time. The programme seemed to go downhill after they all left. The never had a fixed set of presenters after this, prehaps they kept changing presenters to boost ratings, but it just made them seem more desperate.

Personally I think that after the inital departure of Ant, Dec, and Cat they should have relaunched SM-TV - giving it a new look, a new set of permenant presenters, whilst still keeping some of the more popular features. They did this with the Saturday Show and it give it a new lease of life (and better). There is no point in having presenters "filling in" for thoses that have left.

Oh well! Rolling Eyes

Also having to fit around events such a the Grand Prix doesn't help. It's a pity ITV2 isn't terestrial as then they could have moved across to ITV2 after a certain time period like the BBC does.

I actually think Tess & Brian kept it going for a long time, people think the show's all about Ant & Dec but when you think about the job that Tess & Brian did after they left, they were much better than people give them credit for!

Speaking of Tess, apparently, according to News Of The World, her Dad died recently! Poor Tess!

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but expect Ant and Dec back on SM:TV before it comes to the end of its run...

Yep - the last ever Challenge Ant was heavily trailed on yesterdays show. I mentioned it a few pages back.

When Ant and dec left, the idea was to have a set of perminant presenters, that being Cat and James initally, soon after Brian and Tess were added to that perminant list. However when James was sacked, it all went to pot, as Cat decided to go as well. I dont think it was ever planned that the presenters that arrived after ant and dec left were intended to be just "fill in" presenters. Although in hindsight appointing H & Claire (as good as they were) was a bit silly, especially when considering their 'pop star' status

Looks like SM:TV was shorter in the beginning. I looked at that trailer for the first CD:UK and it said it started at 10:40, which menas SM:TV was only 1hr 15 minutes, which seems short. More recently CD:UK ws starting at 11:30, shows how SM:TV must have got more popular if it was extended by 50 minutes.

Also, an errounous statement was made on a recent SM:TV gold as Stephen said Sabrina had been on SM:TV since the start- it wasn't. It has been there from fairly early on, but not since the beginning. At the start of SM:TV their programmes were Cow & Chicken (And I Am Weasel) and The Angry Beavers (I can't thank SM:TV enough for introducing me to The Angry Beavers), and seeing the show was only 75 minutes long, there wouldn't have been time for them to fit Sabrina in anyway.

RIght let me shed some light onto the situation.

SM:tv episodes 1 & 3 ran from 9:25-10:40 due to a grand prix.

Episode 2 ran from 9:25 - 11:30 and INCLUDED Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It was only on shows that went through till 11:30.

The majority of SM:tv back then were shows. They shownt one cow & chicken, one I am weasel, angry beavers (I think this may have been one ep when Sabrina was on). Later up to Christmas they started to show Dexters Lab, and for the first show of the new year (where they played Giant Grabbit), they had a viewers selection where they could pick anything from hey arnold to animaniacs.

In the tower set in 1999 they also had programme additions of power rangers, the addams family & clueless. They took turns to run through spring & summer.

Brian & Tess did an excellent job considering. It may have turned out better if Brian & Tess were as good when they started as they were when they finished.

James was good at some sketches, but I dont think it was right in bringing him in full time.

If anyone saw the Frank Skinner show a couple of weeks ago, you will know that initially Kerry McFadden was going to appear on SM:tv Live alongside Cat & I presume James when the Ant & Dec left. So she left Atomic Kitten, but producers had to turn her down as she then had got pregnant. Kerry & Frank said it wouldn't be a good example to kids. Then Bryan said that they couldn't have a pregnant brid, but they good have a gay guy presenting!

I think a relaunch would have helped. Though it didn't really help this year, even though that first month was great, and back to old standards. Some may say that it was left too late. And it wasn't the greatest relaunch, as the set wasn't that good, the titles weren't good, and they still had 4 presenters.

A perfect combination for Cat Deeley would have been to have two lads with her that could handle a live show, but were different to Ant & Dec. Saying that you can see why they chose James & Brian. I don't get why they had four presenters though!

I've always thought that Cat stayed on to help settle in new presenters and to keep viewers until they were used to the new lot and then Cat could leave and thats why they bought Tess in as well as James and Brian.

Does the SM:tv theme seem in a higher key than usual?

Ahh...... Right. I just can't remember them ever showign Sabrina att he start, maybe it's just me. They probabally just didn't show it on the first edition. My memory isn't the best at little details, and I haven't seen any of those editions of SM:TV since they first aired.

Maybe they sped it up. It sounds lik ethe 99-01 version, but is in a higher key, not as high as the christmas theme tune, thats a note that humans voices cannot reach.

I hope the christmas tune is dug out again, and the main one, not the 01/02 version. in 2004, christmas day is saturday, so will we get a christmas day ministry of mayhem?

Anway back to the music. I think its being sped up. Which gave me an idea. A couple of months ago someone mentioned that american networks sped up programmes slightly. Couldnt CiTV do this? To save a bit more time for adverts and links?

Or are they doing this already? As the title music for all grown up sounded a key lower on SM:tv than on usual CiTV weekdays.
