Just OT; but is Sooty still a Granada Production, or I am right in thinking that they sold it to HiT?

Intresting article on Media Guardian of how about CiTV would need to be teamed up to a kids channel such as Disney to survive for the future, meaning that programmes like MPAA could be shown on The Disney Channel in order to attract more viewers and from what the article said it looks like Disney are intrested, considering they own 25% of GMTV and are the main source of GMTV's Kids programmes.

Don't know about sooty, I thought it was still a Granada Kids production. I wonder why they shown't the new series in the summer? Apparently it wasn't as popular, most probably because it was shown in the summer, and they still had those ugly puppets, I know using the original pupets was nice to mark the 50th anniversery, but to do it all of the time in two series. And now itv have more money from the merger, maybe they can afford to get Brenda Longman back as the voice of sue, it hasn't been the same since.

Interesting about itv having to team up with Disney. But I think its wrong. CiTV has the power to become a strong contender in the childrens market. The programmes are great, and would be good for them to develop a bigger slot on CiTV2 as an extra developing more new shows, to get extra audiences and new talent for CiTV, and then maybe one day soon, develop their own channel. Though this isn't the way it would go. It would be more like itv see an oportunity to save money, link up with Disney, have a disney section on itv1 in the afternoon showing Disney made shows, no new hoem made ones, and then spend more money like all exectutives on posh houses and five course meals daily.

All TV exectutives should view Jimmy Corkhill's speech from the end of the last brookside and think about themselves and what state they are playing on TV in this century. If we can't get it right now, we never will.

I think each member of TV Forum should take over a channel, and then TV might be worth watching, strong decisions will be made, and the focus will be more about the viewers and the programmes rather than the money.

Really it's ITV's own fault that CiTV has ended up like this and such a big thing is being recommended to team up with a satellite kids channel in order to survive is really taking the p*ss. OK, CiTV has improved slightly this autumn, same with ITV1 overall, but it's no thanks to companies like Carlton, the article about Wow and it's cancellation is an intresting one and it doesn't suprise me if they keep carrying on with that method. Really some of this £50,000,000 which will be saved by ITV plc should go into CiTV as it needs it, maybe invest in some new programmes and things like that and expand it to. The problem is that today CiTV only shows 4 programmes per day, unlike what it used to do, some of these programmes are the same thing and can get dull after a while, plus having to rely on imports some of the time is getting out of hand. One of the things which they should do is to extend the slot back to 5.10pm, or 5.30pm which is more sensible and should be a good rival to the BBC. Maybe CiTV2 would be a good idea, but Carlton are probably afraid to do this as they did try it when it started by having CiTV on ITV2 as it was called, going out at weekends at 12.20pm, this was a good idea, they even had recorded IVC at the beginning and end of it, but I am certain it flopped badly, but considering that now more people can get ITV2 would be wort experimenting the idea again.

Just a 2 hour slot sort of like a CiTV extra, but not called that. CiTV2 would be a great name, they could even mess with the lines on the new oval, so that the oval looks like a number 2.

The only way it would get viewers is by turning it into a sort of saturday morning show with programmes. A bit like XChange with programmes. Having guests, games, competitions, sketches and phone ins. Yet also showing new episodes of series before itv1, and premiering new shows, maybe even having CiTV2 exclusives.

In the afternoon all it would go over is the repeat of John Walsh and Judge Judy double bill.

If the chemistry of the presenters is right, the ideas are good and the shows keep the viewers, ratings would come along. Especially viewers who don't like to watch CBBC, but only have freeview!

Just a thought. If CiTV and Disney do join up, will the itv1 slot and the channel be renamed? Like itv Disney? I hope not. I hope its just the programmes that change hands between them, so itv can get exclusive disney shows, and disney can show popular itv series.

Though really CiTV is showing too many imported shows anyway, especially as they aren't on that long. They transmit 105 mins daily, thats 5 shows most days, 6 on friday.

Steven Andrew is making a good point, but it could easily survive with backing from itv execs putting more money into it. The viewers that grow up with CiTV tend to watch more itv when older. Well that worked for me.

But what next? Will childrens channels merge, like nick & the disney channel could become a pirate film channel, or NickelodeDisney!

Yeah, that's the case with me as well, I used to leave the TV on ITV when CiTV finished and ending up getting into programmes like Home and Away and London Tonight! Anyay, I wouldn't take the line that CiTV is doomed, and it might not be a bad thing to have a link up with Disney- it could mean more money for CiTV after all, and they may even make joint productions. But I think the strand should be strenghened - extended hours etc. I think it has the potential to be better than CBBC (by the way, can you imagine how crap that would get if it had no competition?)

It's never been more than about 105mins on average, all that's happened in recent years is that it's been swivelled backwards a bit - ie, 3:30-5:15, 3:25-5:10, then it was 3:20-5:05 and now it's 3:15-5:00. I don't think the slot's changed much programme-wise, its just the programmes used to occupy a 25min slot but with the advent of the extra ad-break halfway through each of the longer programmes (MPAA, Pirate Islands, All Grown Up, etc), they now easily fill 30mins.

I mean before, you'd see something like this and pre 2001 no commercials on the longer programmes, I believe it a gentleman's agreement or something?

3:20-3:40 - preschool
3:40-3:50 - something beyond preschool
3:50-4:15 - Blah
4:15-4:35 - Blah
4:40-5:05 - Blah

Now it's all on the top and bottom of the hour and crammed with ads every 15mins.

Mind you having said that there isn't really a lot you can do on a budget of £33.5m compared to CBBC's £110m. Seems that they've had to resort to shoving all these commercials in to make the books balance, what with the recent revamp and all.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch's Season 7 has 22 episodes.

They're in talks with both Disney and Viacom, but Disney has a lead for some reason. Nickelodeon would seem easier, afterall.. CiTV and Nickelodeon do show Sabrina, Becoming, Worst Witch, Girls in Love, Hey Arnold!, All Grown Up, Invader ZIM, Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron, Angry Beavers, Engie Benjy, Kipper, Maisy and loads of other shows.

I think All Grown Up! cost them alot, there was defintley a bidding war between CBBC and CiTV there.

It is soooo UNFAIR! I remember It used to have loads of show and Sabrina was on with NO ad breaks (4::40-5:05). They used to have loads of presenting time, live shows on a friday afternoon (mad for it, top 10 of everything), good competitions (with them singing the phone no)and GREAT PRESENTERS!!!!! (stephan&danielle)

Will CiTV EVER have less ads to show more shows????

What do you think?????

Be realistic, CiTV needs to make a huge profit to stay on TV. They could easily replace it with daytime shows that would get more ratings, but they're putting the effort in.

HiT owns the rights to Sooty, but Granada produces the TV series.

They couldn't "easily replace it with daytime shows", because they're not allowed to.

No, you were right in your previous post, they could replace it, but they're trying to keep it going with this commercial tie-in thing.
