The more I see CITV cropping, the more I need to resist the urge to go down to carlton's studios in Birmingham and punch someone in the face. The fact they are able to show widescreen properly is good, but why does this suddenly mean that they are incapable of showing 4:3 programmes properly (if anything, they are "preparing" for full time crop accross all programmes)? The same COULD be said for CBBC but they were happily broadcasting 16:9 material properly before the actual pres went 16:9- it's just incompetance & laziness IMO on behalf of both CBBC and CITV.
It teels me older viewers much prefer SMTV- ant it's not a shock at all. Even in its current dire state, it way outshines Dick & Dom, who IMO are rubbish.
So who saw the first episode of the new series of My Parents Are Aliens then? What did you think?
If it wasn't for Josh's voice breaking then you'd really never have known that it was the first of a new series.
Quite good I thought - the old lady going "well I think we'd better be going now" followed by a "three hours later" caption and everybody still shuffling out the door Made a big deal of the breaking voice though.

I didn't see this... but I presume that the actors voice broke and so they incorporated it into the storylines? Good idea by the sounds of it.

Yes, although Lucy seems to have grown a bit as well, and Wendy has returned from wherever she was supposed to have gone at the end of series 4. Alex Kew has certainly grown a lot since the last series with his voice breaking, maybe this will be the last series or they'll make Josh's character older
Also notice that MPAA have kept their own credits rather than going with the ITV Generic credits style.
And it looks like the MPAA website has relaunched with a brand new look, its no longer done in Flash, see www.itv.com/citv or the direct link granadakids.com/aliens

Well what basically happened was that Josh spoke for the first time this series with the deeper voice as he's hit puberty and follows a discussion about aging and then Brian gets the wrong end of the stick when he does down to an old people's home and tries to join because he likes the idea of being waited on hand and foot. Sophie gets into a tiz with the wrinkle cream wanting it to GIVE you wrinkles... Brian gets the old people to the house but mistakes one lady's wig for a brain eating monster or something and cue heroic brain-saving "fly across the room" scene. Elsewhere, Lucy learns that her birthday is on the 17th and not the 7th and makes a really big deal out of it before blowing her hair off with an A-Level Chemistry set and has to wear a wig. Oh and Josh tried to get off school by claiming to be terminally ill.
Should just about cover it.

Wendy left for Birmingham and it was for six months and Lucy made such a big deal of it.
They're going to have to either advance or drop Josh now, I reckon. Next year, if there is one, should see him in sixth form or college or whatever if they're maintaining realism but who knows? I dare say if its all timeless then as long as Alex Kew (and everybody else) continues to look 14yrs-old they can get away with the school scenarios. Pete's looked sixteen for the last three series for goodness sake.

Very nice, the previous version was also available in static HTML as well.

I've always found Wendy's character really cute. So glad she's back. missed it today though!
Alex Kew must be about 17 by now. He's a bit late for his voice breaking!
Never really liked the Wendy character as you just know she'll fall out with Lucy or start waffling on about NASA and then make up with Lucy twenty minutes later. Bit predictable really.
IMDB says a 1986 DOB for Alex Kew so either that's wrong or the kid's a bit late. It's always the kid actors who seem to break voice last, isn't it? My own voice broke at 12.
Just read all this post again, I'm slightly disturbed that I know so much about this show

Also, regarding SM:TV, apparently it finishes on 20th December. I wonder what will happen on 27th then? Surely the new show will start on 3rd Jan??
Interesting first show. Compared to some eps of the last series, it wasn't that good to start off with, though it was setting things up. When it got into it it was ok. I didnt think much of mel's little bit. Brian trying to get into the nursing home was fun, where Brian flew and swipped the wig off the womens head. And Lucy's chemistry set blowing her up. And the second use of the wig!
Josh doesn't seem the same now his voice has broken. He used to be the mischevous kid, now he's grown up. Isn't the actor 15?
And something else. If each series is a year on, and this is series 5, shouldn't mel have left school, as josh & her were both in high schol in series 1! So with her being older, shouldn't she have left by now?
The sun article reports that it will finish on the 20th. Yet the original announcement stated the 27th for the finish. But we just dont know.
And will we see a new look cd:uk do you think? At the moment the logo fits in with the SM:tv logo, so they might change it. And we may see new graphics, as they may make it widescreen.
