SMTV has a weird feel to it at the moment. It just feels cheap, and this extends to all the sketches. They don't feel right. The titles don't help, being all animated and that. The only thing that can save the show now is a *major* revamp.
FA
Or I am sorry for badly phrasing it; it was the two guys and tess playing the members of busted who were ghostbusters. Quite a nice idea but that could get tidious soon too; what they need is a sketch that uses the presenters and not them in character like chums; can anyone think of any ideas?
Id like to see a major revamp; though if Nigel Pickard is determined on starting a new show in the new year I doubt that he'll want to spend a lot of money on a new look to SM:tv Live though I think it needs it!
They could do with a new look where everything changes bar the name and the fact that they have sketches, games and guests! A bit like Live & Kicking 2000; Id think if they were going to relaunch they would do it in September to try and compete with Dick & Dom when they go to BBC One.
If itv could allow a whole relaunch to take place (including promotion outside of citv time!) they may not need to spend more money on a replacement; its a matter of gaining more audience. At the moment SM:tv's audience is kids the same as the saturday show; thus why ratings for both are like sm:tv's old ratings halved; the old sm:tv was popular with kids, teenagers and their parents!
How would you change SM:tv (if u could do anything!) to gain viewers?
Would you change the set or presenters?
What sketches and games would you include?
Would you look to the past to get back to the old style or change the format but keep the name?

Normally I don't like change, but SMTV needs it now! I think appointing Des & Shavaughn as presenters was a mistake to begin with. I do like them, but I seem to be the only one! Tess is leaving soon so I think that after that, they need some new presenters. They should bring in new people. Or maybe people who have had experience presenting but only on smaller shows(Like when they hired Cat, she was only on Hitlist UK). I do agree that they need a sketch where they don't have to play characters, and just be themselves! Like Big Bother last year, that was very good! I never understood why they didn't bring Chums back. It was never strictly an Ant & Dec only sketch, and if it had the same scriptwriters, it would still be funny! They need to change the set as well, it looks terrible at the moment! It just looks dull! The set used to look great! They don't even have the clock in the background anymore, which I always thought was a good idea(I mean having the clock, not getting rid of it!) And why don't they show the opening titles anymore? They just go straight to the presenters in the studio from Walkers sponsorship and miss the opening titles out! I think, maybe for their 5th birthday, they'll have a complete new look show! I shall certainly hope so!

I think people are being a bit hard on SMTV really, just think how hard it must be to think up really good ideas for 250 different shows, it was obvious that they would start to flag a bit with the ideas by this stage
Also people keep saying it should be relaunched or axed and replaced by something else, but as SMTV and The saturday show are approximately the same sort of format the kids must like it, so ITV launching something different may end up taking them back to the days when ITV wasn't 0.1million below BBC1's ratings, more like they only had 0.1million viewers in total!
It will be interesting to see how this Dick and Dom thing changes when it reaches BBC1
Oh and yes the Ghostbusted thing was quite funny, I don't mind Popbrain that much either

I just find that popbrain takes up too much of the show with three rounds; unless they are just using it as a fill in for the summer so that any good ideas that they do create are used in september to try and keep a respectable figure against dick & dom.
The set was ok, though it did need to change, and they did; but it is looking old now. The Saturday Show set since January is a great set; infact the whole set is as they have a lovely big sofa there all of the time and have a space for sketches and stuff.
They had a clock for one week (on the 2nd week of the relaunch) that fitted into that circle where the sm:tv logo is; it wasnt a digital clock just the two hands that were fitted on there.
Also the old set had the shelves where different toys were put so that even if the actual set didnt change, something did. I also dont like the triangle sofa!
They are bound to have a new sponser in the autumn as they always have before (bar nesquick which came in something like november and disapeared a week before ambrosia splat took over). So new sponser = new money presumibly. Can we expect to see the last series of sabrina? (as were bound to have sabrina september on nick, again!).
For me, Stephen and Tess have worked really well together over the past few weeks. And Stephen used to work well with Brian; its a shame he left as the three of them may have been able to support it on their own (with good writing!).
Remember though Des & Shavaughan are still building on their skills; they are new presenters and have had to come into a show which attracts just over a million and have to try and get that total up! Cat came along when it was a new show; low audience figures, no physical audience in the studio and shownt how good she was with her music on cd:uk, In fact Cat's first sketch on sm:tv was well into 1999; ant & dec used to do things like th ebig interview and 'ITS NOT FLAMING GOOD ENOUGH; a favourite sketch of mine!
They should ressurect the tower; that was a good set! and they used the little stage to the left (viewer pov) of it.

With The Saturday Show on hiatus from mid September until the spring, Sm:tv has a chance to pick up the viewers that only want to see a co-presented show with music artists, celeb guests playing games etc. Dick and Dom have said on one of their crazy CBBC ONE links that there will be no more celebrity guests or popstars with them taking over Saturday mornings. The Saturday Show will leave with 1 million plus viewers on their last show but all those are unlikely to automatically watch Dick and Dom the next week. Saturday Show fans will still want to see the format they like which suggests that Sm:tv would fill the gap. An estimate for Dick and Dom would be that they would match TSS Mk1 ratings of 0.8m. Their show would have to be a huge hit to gain the majority of Saturday Show viewers. TOTP Saturday with Fearne Cotton will still be on every Saturday morning at 11:15 so the dedicated viewers would switch over to BBC1 then and desert ITV1. TOTPS Live from BBC Television Centre will mean that big name stars will be on more often giving CD:UK a run for their money. TOTP Saturday even from the BBC Glasgow Studio is a better show than CD:UK.
If a new show is aired from 2004 on ITV1 it would have Jan, Feb & March to establish itself against Dick & Dom before the return of The Saturday Show which is expected back on screens in early April 2004.

Not true - Des presented Diggit.

No, Des never presented Diggit. This guy's a different Des - not the same guy at all. And fair play to him, he's doing a very good job of it.

I hate presenters that do that. His real name is Paul Ballard; yet on the end credits it always said Paul 'Des' Ballard; so why do they call him Des?
Was it his middle name or was it some nickname from somewhere?
On the STUDIO Disney, they have a presenter called OLLIE; he has no surname and used to be in band Point Break yet Ollie isnt his real name!
If SM:tv can tweak the format slightly with the presenters that they have so that Tess & Stephen present mainly from a new sofa area and Des & shavaughan do sketches and games with Stephen & Tess, and tweak things to a way in which the presenters can easily play with them to their abilities it could work out great.
They really need more freedom like The Big Breakfast had where there was a rough script but could move away from the script to involve the crew and audience.
BTW. Does anyone know if and when Tess is leaving? Will it be the end of the year or in September?
Id like to see more games perhaps games where charcaters are involved so that it takes up a bit of time; like SPLATOON (simple game with classic characters); and the second version of 'WHAT'S ANT WHISTLING?' where they were conducters of an orchestra.
Id like more interactiveness of the presenters, talking to each other, or just messing about; Id like the kids to be used more than phone ins for games, and use the audience in the studio; thats what they're there for; more shows than sabrina; and new titles (or revert back to the old ones and use the charcters of the old titles in new ways on set and on screen (graphics!))
