I watched some of D&D yesterday.
I still haven't recovered. I never thought I'd say this, but...
Bring Back The Saturday Show!

Yup, cropporama on The Flintstones
. Only one single thing to do- everyone email dutyoffice@itv.com . They seem to do a better job at listening than the BBC (e.g. the Emmerdale filmic effect). This is unacceptable. God knows how this is going to fúck up SMTV Gold.

Some people are never happy, are they. People wanted CiTV in widescreen, they have made it widescreen, and people arent happy.
I suppose they could change each ratio for each programme, though for so many programmes lasting a total of only 105 minutes, it seems a bit pointless to have some body sitting there pressing a button.

Looks like "All Grown Up" was cropped as well as it went out 4:3 last Monday.
Those bumper things (the flag with the logo on and the "goodbye earthlings" one for example) looked better today, I wonder if they made them in widescreen originally and just did centre cut-out mode initlally for them? They have done this previously for some programme trailers.
Is it me or has the DOG moved down slightly? I'm sure it was higher up towards the narrow black bar on a 14:9 transmission, although if they have now gone full widescreen then they'd have had to reposition/size it anway, having had it set for 4:3 previously. Remember many a time during the Crossroads era where they forgot to switch the CiTV DOG off and you had a fatter dog jump stage left on the switch back into widescreen for the ident.

Not sure why it's pointless at all, it's not like they're flicking ratios every 10 seconds. Though why can't they just use pillarbox on 4:3? It wouldn't hurt anyone. Yet again, I hope SMTV Gold is still 4:3, hopefully it will be as its production is independant of that of CITV in Birmingham, along with the fact all they really show is 4:3 inserts & programmes, live studio content being minimal now.
One thign to reemmber is cropping to 14:9 loses 12.5% of the original picture, which really is quite a fair bit. Even worse is the majority of digital viewers (even widescreen ones suprisingly!) watch in 4:3 centre cut who then lose a further 12.5% of the original picture off the sides- also don't forget to add the overscan. In the end it looks really crappy. The crop-happy execs at CBBC and CITV should really think about this, especially as unlike the widescreen shows, the 4:3 ones aren't shot with the intentions of the picture being cropped off.

Here's a thought:
Perhaps CiTV was indeed put out today in 4:3 as usual but its been cropped and put out in widescreen format elsewhere down the line, say, at LNN? Seems a bit of a co-incidence that Carlton Central have now suddenly starting using the breakflashes (both network and CiTV) at the same time that they start cropping 4:3 material ala CBBC?
Or maybe they think nobody of those who this stuff is aimed at will notice.
